What's the weak point of the Eagles defense?

Now that the Philadelphia Eagles 53-man depth chart is finally here, it's time to revisit an important question: which position on the Eagles roster concerns you the most?

Here's a position-by-position breakdown of the Eagles roster. We already looked at the offense. Now here's a look at the defense.

Defensive Line

DE Fletcher Cox, DE Cedric Thornton, NT Bennie Logan, DE Vinny Curry, NT Beau Allen, DE Brandon Bair, DE Taylor Hart

This is arguably the best unit on Philadelphia's roster. The defensive line is mostly filled with young, talented two-gap players. Cox is obviously a beast and he's only 24 years old. Thornton is a prototypical five-technique who is great at stuffing the run. Logan looks like he's poised for a big year making plays on the inside. Curry is an excellent pass rusher off the bench. Allen is a solid rotational backup for Logan. Bair contributes on special teams. Hart had a good summer and gives the Eagles reliable depth. This position isn't a concern at all.

Outside Linebacker

Brandon Graham, Connor Barwin, Marcus Smith, Bryan Braman, Brad Jones

There's little question to me Graham and Barwin can be good starters. There is question, however, about the depth at this position. Smith was obviously disappointing as a rookie and the fact he's been injured recently hasn't helped his case. The team's 2014 first round pick really needs to step up once he gets healthy. It should be noted Curry is getting some looks at outside linebacker; it will be interesting to see how that goes. Braman is more of a special teams player but he looked awesome against backups in preseason. One could argue he deserves a snap or two in the regular rotation on defense. Jones will contribute on special teams and provide depth as a player who can play both inside and outside. If one of the starters goes down, the Eagles could be in trouble here.

Inside Linebacker

Kiko Alonso, Mychal Kendricks, DeMeco Ryans, Jordan Hicks

Alonso is coming off some injury issues but there's no question he's talented when healthy. The pair of him and Kendricks gives the Eagles a young, dynamic duo of play-making inside linebackers. It remains to be seen how Ryans will be mixed into the rotation on the inside. Hicks showed potential as a rookie. The 2015 third round pick won't be expected to play on defense much since he's buried on the depth chart. Hicks will have to make his livings on special teams for now. The depth at this position is very solid.

Cornerback

Byron Maxwell, Nolan Carroll, Eric Rowe, E.J. Biggers, Denzel Rice

Maxwell looks like the real deal, which is good news for the Eagles after spending all that money on him. Opposite of Maxwell is Carroll. The team played Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams over Carroll last season, so that doesn't seem like a good sign, but Carroll has had a good summer and he's healthier than he was last season. Carroll is also expected to slide into the slot when the Eagles use their nickel defense. 2015 second round pick Rowe showed some flashes of promise but also showed a lot of concerns. He's still new to the cornerback position and might not be able to be trusted right away. Biggers has experience at multiple positions, but unfortunately for the team he's struggled a lot in the past. Rice defied the odds and made the team as an undrafted rookie free agent. He's probably going to be inactive on game day. The depth at this position is questionable.

Safety

Malcolm Jenkins, Walter Thurmond, Chris Maragos, Jerome Couplin

Jenkins and Thurmond could actually make a pretty decent starting safety duo. Both players are converted cornerbacks who have shown a knack for making plays on the ball. There are concerns about their tackling skills, but Philadelphia's strong front seven should keep them clean for the most part. The depth behind the two starters is very concerning for the Eagles. Maragos is mostly just a good special teams player. Couplin might be able to step up as the third safety.

What's the weak point of the Eagles offense?

Now that the Philadelphia Eagles 53-man depth chart is finally here, it's time to revisit an important question: which position on the Eagles roster concerns you the most?

Here's a position-by-position breakdown of the Eagles roster, starting with the offense.

Quarterback

Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Stephen Morris

Bradford had a great summer. Not only did he look great in practice and during the preseason (albeit in a small sample size), but he stayed healthy and never showed any signs of injury. He didn't miss a single rep in practice. IF Bradford can stay healthy, he could put up some big numbers in this offense. Sanchez had a nice spring but didn't look so hot in the summer. It's clear he's nothing more than a solid backup. Morris is the new guy who won't even be active on game day barring an injury to one of the first two quarterbacks. The 23-year-old could be a nice developmental guy to have for the future.

Running Back

DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, Kenjon Barner

The Eagles are obviously stacked at this position. The combination of Murray and Mathews is a very strong one-two punch. These are physical, no-nonsense runners who punish defenders and grind out the tough yards. The Eagles got away from running the ball a little bit last season. They probably won't make that mistake again. Sproles will also get a few carries here and there but it seems the team is set on using him more often in the passing game. Barner won't get too many touches, if any, but he's proven his worth as a punt returner and a guy who can make plays in space. He's Sproles-lite.

Wide Receiver

Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Josh Huff, Riley Cooper, Miles Austin, Seyi Ajirotutu

Matthews is clearly the best player here. He's had a great summer. He's a weapon in the middle of the field working the slot. The Bradford-to-Matthews connection was unstoppable at times this offseason. Agholor showed this summer why he deserved to be a first round pick. He's flashed some real talent. He's incredibly shifty. The rookie still needs to work on some concentration drops before he can be relied on a full-time player, however. Huff returns hoping to improve upon a disappointing rookie season where he didn't play much. Huff looked good in practices but had a quiet preseason. He's kind of flying under the radar right now. Cooper is still around. In theory, he offers value as a blocker but he was a liability as a pass catcher last season. Perhaps the Eagles signed Austin to eat into Cooper's reps a little bit. The veteran is far from a playmaker but he's kind of like the new Jason Avant. Just a possession guy who runs good routes. Ajirotutu will make his living on special teams.

Tight End

Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton

Despite not being much of a receiving threat at this point, Celek is still the team's trusty blocking tight end. With the Eagles aiming to get back to running the ball more often, his value as a blocker theoretically increases. Still, the Eagles need to get Ertz on the field. The team has seen improvement in his blocking and he's obviously the more dynamic receiver. Ertz might be a little banged up to start the season while coming off a groin injury but he shouldn't miss significant time, if any. Burton is certainly a nice third tight end to have. He's a major contributor on special teams and he provides value as an offensive contributor as well.

Offensive Line

OT Jason Peters, OG Allen Barbre, C Jason Kelce, OG Andrew Gardner, OT Lane Johnson, T/G Matt Tobin, C David Molk, T/G Dennis Kelly, C/G Josh Andrews

Peters, Kelce, and Johnson are three starting studs. Outside of them, there are some questions marks. Barbre and Gardner aren't young but they don't have a ton of playing experience. For what it's worth, both guards graded out well in the preseason by Pro Football Focus. Barbre ranked 16th out of 146 guards and Gardner ranked 26th. Plus, guard is typically considered one of the least important positions on offense anyway. The depth behind the starters is questionable, however. Tobin struggled last season, and he's the top backup at every position except center. Molk might be serviceable as a backup center. Kelly is just a guy at most. Andrews is an interesting player because he showed some potential as a run blocker this preseason with PFF's fourth best run blocking grade by any guard.

Kicker

As I did last year, I'm lumping kicker into offense for the sake of this discussion.

The 23-year-old Cody Parkey has had a strange summer. The second-year kicker went five-for-seven in field goal kicks and also missed an extra point attempt in the first two preseason games. Then he sat out the last two games with a groin injury. He expects to be ready for the season and the Eagles only kept him as the one kicker on the roster, which seems to be a good sign. The Eagles are hoping these missed kicks were just a blip on the radar instead of a sign of more struggles to come.

The 2015 Eagles practice squad is beginning to take shape.

The Philadelphia Eagles have officially signed 10 players to their NFL practice squad, according to an official announcement from the team. All 10 players were eligible to join the 10-man practice squad after clearing waivers at noon today on Sunday. Nine players spent time with the Eagles this offseason; one did not.

Eagles practice squad 2015

At a glance:

RB Raheem Mostert
LB Deontae Skinner
OL Brett Boyko
TE Chris Pantale
CB Randall Evans
OL Malcolm Bunche
WR Quron Pratt
S Ed Reynolds
DE Brian Mihalik
WR Freddie Martino

More details:

TE Chris Pantale - Pantale is the only player on the practice squad who wasn't previously a member of the Eagles. The 25-year-old tight end originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2013. He dressed for five games with the Jets in 2014. Pantale played for Boston College, which is where current Eagles quarterback coach Ryan Day used to coach. Pantale most recently spent training camp with the Chicago Bears. He measures in at 6-5, 254 pounds.

RB Raheem Mostert - The undrafted free agent rookie running back finished the 2015 NFL preseason with the most rushing yards and yards from scrimmage of any player. He also flashed ability as a kick returner. Mostert became a fan favorite due to his strong preseason performance so people will be happy to see him stick around.

ILB Deontae Skinner - The 24-year-old Skinner joined the Eagles late in training camp. He actually looked OK during the preseason games but the Eagles are already loaded at inside linebacker. Skinner has some NFL experience with the Patriots.

OL Brett Boyko - The Eagles gave this undrafted free agent rookie a decent signing bonus so this was easy to see coming. Philadelphia's offensive line depth is questionable so it doesn't hurt to keep an extra player who can play tackle around.

CB Randall Evans - The Eagles used a sixth round pick on Evans in the 2015 NFL Draft but he never really showed much this summer. Undrafted rookie free agent Denzel Rice made the team over him. Evans is versatile; he's played on the outside, nickel, and at safety.

OL Malcolm Bunche - This is a player whom some (including myself) projected to make the Eagles' final 53-man roster. Bunche showed some real potential at right guard, especially as a run blocker. He's big (6-6, 320 pounds) and powerful. Perhaps he can compete for a starting job one day in the future. The Eagles could look to call up Bunche if their guards struggle and/or get injured.

WR Quron Pratt - The Rutgers alumnus spent the entire 2014 on the practice squad after flashing in training camp and preseason as a rookie. Pratt didn't do as much to stand out this offseason, so it's at least a little surprising he's sticking around again.

S Ed Reynolds - Philadelphia's 2014 fifth round draft pick is back for another year on the practice squad. Reynolds was pushing for a fourth or fifth safety spot on the Eagles' 53-man roster but just fell short. The 23-year-old safety dealt with some tackling issues in the preseason but he looked good in coverage and stood out on special teams. The Eagles are thin at safety so keeping Reynolds provides some extra depth at that spot.

DE Brian Mihalik - The Eagles used a seventh round pick on the 6-9, 282 pound Mihalik. He has intriguing size and athleticism but he's just too raw for the NFL right now. Not to mention the Eagles are already stacked at defensive end.

WR Freddie Martino - Martino joined the Eagles late in training camp. He had a decent preseason; he finished with five receptions for 95 yards (19.0 average) and an amazing touchdown catch in the Eagles-Jets finale. Martino has previously spent time on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.

...

Notable players who DID NOT make the practice squad: WR Rasheed Bailey, OLB Diaheem Watkins.

*Takes a hit*

Let 's talk about third string quarterbacks.

It is over, guys. The obnoxious media attention surrounding the most polarizing backup's backup in the league is on its way out of Philadelphia. Tim Tebow was so awful that he could not secure the third quarterback job. Hell, he was so awful, he got cut despite Matt Barkley getting traded to Arizona. He literally lost to himself. He is THAT BAD at quarterback. With the third quarterback position left completely open, the Eagles picked up former Miami Hurricanes and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback, Stephen Morris. While Morris may not be anything to throw a party over, we are talking about third string quarterbacks and he is worlds better than Timothy Richard Tebow.

The 6-2, 220 pound quarterback initially went undrafted out of Miami and not without reason. Morris was incredibly sporadic during his time at Miami. He would have brain farts; forcing passes, having mechanical breakdowns or really looking iffy in the pocket. However, it is not all bad. The first thing that people will notice if they watch Morris is his arm strength. It is absurd. No, seriously. Any stupid "he has a *insert generic weapon* for an arm" metaphor is apt. I mean, look at this! Not only does he have an arm, he is also a good athlete and a smart football player. He had a lot of very nice moments at Miami, enough that people thought he was a future top quarterback once upon a time. However, lack of consistency hindered him and it cost him.

So why the hullabaloo? Well, Tebow is gone! I am ecstatic. Do I have an ulterior motive? Yeah, probably, but he sucks! Morris will not set the world on fire, but having a young quarterback with workable tools is a much more exciting prospect than having Tebow's awfulness. Watching him try to read vanilla, preseason defenses this year was like watching a blind person put together a jigsaw puzzle. It was painful. It was awful. But now he is gone and his replacement is world's better.

What about Matt Barkley? Is Morris better than Matt Barkley? Well, considering that Matt Barkley does not have a throwing arm, just a box of Easy Mac attached to his shoulder, I would say yes. To be honest, we are all better than Matt Barkley.

The undrafted free agent running back cleared waivers.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be keeping undrafted free agent running back Raheem Mostert after all. According to Mostert's agent, the rookie cleared waivers and is set to join Philadelphia's 10-man practice squad.

Some thought Mostert might not make it through waivers after having such a strong summer. The Purdue alumnus finished the preseason as the NFL's leader in yards from scrimmage and total yards this preseason. Mostert carried the ball 39 times for a total of 157 yards (4.0 average). He also recorded 14 receptions for 194 yards (13.9 average). Mostert returned five kickoffs for a total of 162 yards (32.4), with a long of 67 yards.

The Eagles opted to keep former Oregon Ducks running back Kenjon Barner on the 53-man roster over Mostert. Now the Eagles will get to keep both players in Philadelphia.

The Eagles may release players and sign others before their Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons. That game takes place just one week from tomorrow, by the way.

Part of Sunday's involves the NFL waiver wire and formation of 10-man practice squads. The Eagles rank 20th in the NFL waiver wire order so they will have to hope the 19 teams ahead of them don't want a player in order for their claim to be successful. The waiver period ends on at 12:00 PM EST.

The Eagles have a new quarterback.

The Philadelphia Eagles claimed former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Stephen Morris via the NFL waiver wire, according to a report from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. This means the Eagles found the third string quarterback they were looking for. With the addition of Morris, Philadelphia's roster now stands at the maximum capacity of 53 players.

The 23-year-old Morris originally signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent following the 2014 NFL Draft. Morris spent the 2014 season on Jacksonville's practice squad. The Jaguars recently waived Morris in their final cuts.

Between his junior and senior years at Miami, Morris combined for 443 completions on 765 attempts (57.9%), 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions.

Philadelphia clearly brought Morris in to be their third string quarterback behind starter Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez. He's a developmental player who likely won't be kept active on game day.

Here's a Morris spider graph:
