The 2015 NFL regular season is so close.

Philadelphia Eagles football is almost back. Let that sink in.

In one week from tonight, the Eagles open their 2015 NFL regular season schedule against the Falcons in Atlanta on Monday, Sept. 14 at 7:10 PM EST.

It's been such a long offseason filled with crazy roster moves. Everyone is excited to see how the changes will pay off, especially if the team's performance in preseason this year is a sign of success to come. There are plenty of reasons to be excited about this Eagles team.

This is obviously an important year for the Birds. Chip Kelly majorly shook up the roster after going 10-6 the past two seasons. Regular season success is one thing, but Kelly knows he needs to start winning in the postseason.

For some Eagles fans, this season is the most anticipated one since 2004 when the Eagles ended up going to the Super Bowl. It remains to be seen if this team deserves similar kind of hype. This Eagles team still has a lot to prove.

And so the countdown continues: just one more week to go.

Can the Eagles finish the season on a high note?

Philadelphia Eagles training camp begins in a little over two weeks. With nothing else better to do, let's look ahead to the upcoming season. I'm going to spend the next couple of days breaking down the team's 2015 schedule into four quarters. As a reminder, here's the entire 2015 Eagles schedule. We reviewed Philadelphia's first four games on Tuesday, the second quarter on Wednesday, and the third quarter on Thursday. Now let's look at the final four.

14) Buffalo Bills (Dec. 13, 1:00 PM)

This match kicks off the first of three home games in a row in December. Not too shabby. Having home field advantage down the stretch could really pay off.

Now for the matchup itself. Welcome back, LeSean McCoy. The Eagles' franchise leading rusher will return to Philadelphia and it'll be interesting to see what the fan reception is like. McCoy hasn't exactly endeared himself to the Eagles fan base since leaving. He basically accused Chip Kelly of being racist and then denied the chance to explain himself. Some would identify McCoy's behavior as "salty. On the field, McCoy will have a tough time going against the Eagles' front seven.

Elsewhere, the Bills had a very impressive defense last season and now Rex Ryan will be at the helm. That's all well and good, but the fact that the Bills really don't have a starting quarterback is a major issue. The lack of a threatening passing attack could allow teams to cheat on the run. I think the Eagles take this one.

15) Arizona Cardinals (Dec. 20, 1:00 PM)

Chip Kelly versus Bruce Arians, Round 3. Eagles-Cardinals games have been pretty entertaining the past two seasons. It's almost like Arizona is back in the NFC East again.

I'm really interested to see how Arians will fare now that former defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has been hired by the Jets. There's no question that defense has been the Cardinals' strength the past two seasons. They ranked 7th in defensive DVOA last year and 2nd in 2013. The offense, on the other hand, ranked 23rd last year and 20th in Arians' first year with Arizona.

As the head coach, Arians obviously deserves some credit for the success the Cardinals have had. But now he'll really be tested. I'll take Kelly's offenses over the ones he's been responsible for. Even if they're from college.

16) Washington Redskins (Dec. 26, 8:25 PM)

A Saturday evening game late in the season against Washington. What can go wrong? Oh, yeah, right...

For the Eagles' sake, at least the game will be in Philadelphia this time around. If Washington ends up struggling again this season, they could be looking to play spoiler to the Eagles once again. I'm sure DeSean Jackson will be extra motivated to have a big performance against his old team in his old stadium.

17) at New York Giants (Jan. 3, 1:00 PM)

For the second season in a row, the Eagles will end their regular season campaign against the G-Men in <strike>New York </strike>New Jersey.

Last year's game was a meaningless dud. Maybe this one will have some meaning when it comes to the playoff picture. If the Giants continue the trend of being the most injured team in the NFL while the Eagles continue to be the healthiest, Philadelphia could have an advantage.

Is a 4-0 record possible?

Having those three games at home is big. I don't know about 4-0, but three wins is certainly in play here. Based off previous projections in this series, the Eagles should finish the season about 11-5. That's what I had them going earlier this offseason. Depending on how they fare in their NFC East games, the Eagles should be in the position for a playoff berth.

What say you about this last stretch of games? What will the Eagles' final record be?

With nothing else better to do, let's look ahead to the upcoming season. I'm going to spend the next couple of days breaking down the team's 2015 schedule into four quarters. Now let's look at the next four.

10) Miami Dolphins (Nov. 15, 1:00 PM)

Much was made of how former Eagles quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor implemented parts of Chip Kelly's offense in Miami last season. The Dolphins ranked eighth overall in offensive DVOA last season. Now the copycat will face the master head on. It'll be interesting to see how these teams game-plan against each other.

Lazor isn't the only assistant coach going up against his former team in this game. Eagles special teams coordinator Dave Fipp spent time with the Dolphins before being hired in Philadelphia. If the Dolphins are as terrible as they were on special teams last year (dead last in special teams DVOA), then this could be a big mismatch given the Eagles' special teams prowess.

Overall, the Dolphins should provide a decent challenge to the Eagles.

11) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Nov. 22, 1:00 PM)

This one has a weird feel to it, just like the Eagles-Titans game prior to last year's Dallas game on Thanksgiving. There might be some trap game potential. It'll be interesting to see how Jameis Winston adjusts to the NFL.

The Eagles' investment in tall/long defensive backs could pay off here. Philadelphia will have to deal with big pass catchers such as Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans, and Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

12) at Detroit Lions (Nov. 26, 12:30 PM)

Another Thanksgiving game! Last year the Eagles traveled to Dallas to beat up the Cowboys on Turkey Day. Can they do the same with Detroit?

It won't be easy. The Lions' defense looked really strong last year under defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, though losing Ndamukong Suh will hurt. Head coach Jim Caldwell did a lot better of a job than most expected last season. We'll see if the Lions can keep it up.

Oh, and I'd be remiss not to mention this is a rematch of the epic Snow Bowl game from 2013. Sadly, this time the dome at Ford Field will prevent that from happening again.

13) at New England Patriots (Dec. 6, 4:25 PM)

Yikes. Traveling to New England to and beating Tom Brady in his house is no easy task. This will be a major test for Philadelphia.

After seeing the Eagles and Patriots square off in preseason the last two years, the Chip Kelly versus Bill Belichick regular season matchup is finally going to happen. Despite being good friends, I can't help but think these guys really want to stick it to each other. Who is the REAL genius?!

The good news for the Eagles here is that they will have a few extra days of rest heading into this matchup since they play on Thanksgiving.

Is a 4-0 record possible?

No, probably not. This isn't an easy stretch, especially with two tough road games in a row. 2-2 seems like the most realistic outcome here. On the bright side, AFC losses are the least damaging kind of defeat. Based on our previous breakdowns, a 2-2 record puts the Eagles at about 8-4 or 7-5 at this point.

Tomorrow I'll preview the fourth and final quarter of the Eagles schedule. For now, what say you about these four games? Where will the Eagles stand after the twelve games of the season?

Can the Eagles be above .500 by halfway through the season?

Philadelphia Eagles training camp begins in a little over two weeks. Now let's look at the next four.

5) New Orleans Saints (Oct. 11, 1:00 PM)

From an outside perspective, the Saints' offseason is confusing. What's their plan? Trading away an established star tight end like Jimmy Graham seemed to signal a rebuild, but then the Saints also traded away a young talent like the 23-year-old Kenny Stills. The Saints drafted a potential quarterback of the future in Garrett Grayson, but for now Drew Brees is still very much around.

If the team is hoping to make another run with Brees, the defense has to be a lot better than it was last year. Rob Ryan's unit ranked second to last in DVOA in 2014. The Saints ranked as the worst run defense in the entire NFL. If that trend continues, the Saints are in big trouble when they play the Eagles. Philadelphia's run-heavy offense could make for a huge mismatch in favor of the Eagles.

The Saints just aren't as threatening on the road as they are in the Superdome. Then again, that's what everyone said back during the 2014 NFL Playoffs. The Eagles and Saints have gone through a great deal of change since that playoff game, however. Former New Orleans players Darren Sproles and Malcolm Jenkins happen to be very big contributors to Philadelphia now. There's no question the Saints missed them last year. This year, they could help their new team beat their old team. This is winnable for Philly.

6) New York Giants (Oct. 19, 8:30 PM)

It feels like it's been a long time since there was a good, even-matched Eagles-Giants game that actually mattered. The Eagles clobbered the G-Men in a shutout early last season before Mark Sanchez led the team to a victory in a meaningless Week 17 finale. In 2013, the first Eagles-Giants game was kind of close ... but Philadelphia scored 17 unanswered starting late in the third quarter to win 36-21. The other Eagles-Giants game that year was when an injured Michael Vick started and a rookie Matt Barkley had to play. And the G-Men only won by 8 points on a final score of 15-7. You really have to go back to the Eagles-Giants game in 2012 when Philadelphia retired Brian Dawkins' No. 20 jersey to find an even-sided affair.

The Eagles have dominated the Giants during the Chip Kelly era. Philadelphia has outscored the G-Men by a total of 104-62 over the past two seasons. The Giants haven't really made any changes to make me believe that trend will change, though defending Odell Beckham Jr. will obviously be a challenge.

7) @ Carolina Panthers (Oct. 25, 8:30 PM)

The Panthers somehow managed to be the least incompetent team in the utterly disgraceful NFC South last year. Carolina looked terrible when they came to play in Philadelphia. Mark Sanchez ripped the Panthers' (formerly) vaunted defense to shreds. Cam Newton got sacked a billion times and made some bad decisions with the ball. It wasn't pretty for the visiting team.

This time around the Eagles will be on the road. Road games can be tough, but I'm not overly impressed by the Panthers. I wasn't high on Carolina heading into 2014 and I haven't seen good reason to change my opinion on them since.

8) BYE Week

I'd argue the Eagles' bye week comes at a good time. It's about halfway through the season. Most importantly, it gives them time to rest up before a crucial game.

9) @ Dallas Cowboys (Oct. 19, 8:30 PM)

This one isn't all that far removed from the Eagles-Cowboys game set to take place in Week 2, so it's bound to be a great rematch. The Eagles probably won't have an easy time demolishing the Cowboys like they did on Thanksgiving last year. Chip Kelly is 2-0 at games in Jerry's World, but it won't be easy to reach 3-0. This will be Sam Bradford's (?) first big division road game test.

Is a 4-0 record possible?

No. The Eagles will lose at least one of these games, if not two. Considering we expect the Eagles to have a strong start, however, they still should be above .500 by the half mark. 6-2 or 5-3 looks realistic to me.

Tomorrow I'll preview the third quarter of the Eagles schedule. For now, what say you about these four games? Where will the Eagles stand after the first half of the season?

Can the Eagles get off to a good start in 2015?

Philadelphia Eagles training camp begins in a little over two weeks. With nothing else better to do, let's look ahead to the upcoming season. I'm going to spend the next couple of days breaking down the team's 2015 schedule into four quarters. As a reminder, here's the entire 2015 Eagles schedule. Today we'll focus on the first four games.

1) at Atlanta Falcons (Sept. 14, 7:30 PM)

For the second time in three years of the Chip Kelly era, the Eagles will open their season on Monday Night Football. Kelly made his unforgettable NFL debut back in 2013 against Washington. Will his team have the same kind of success this time around?

I have this Eagles-Falcons game ranked as the best on Philadelphia's schedule. The excitement doesn't have to do with the matchup as much as it does the fact this is the first time everyone will get to see the new Eagles in real competitive action. The Eagles have gone through so many changes this offseason. There are so many questions marks on this roster. A strong debut could have everyone feeling good about the rest of the season. Conversely, a slow start will make everyone nervous.

The Eagles are already favored to beat the Falcons in Week 1. I think the Eagles get the job done here.

2) Dallas Cowboys (Sept. 20, 4:25 PM)

This one's going to be good. The last time the Eagles and Cowboys played at Lincoln Financial Field, it was Dallas who left with the victory. The big angle heading into this week will obviously be centered around 2014 NFL leading rusher DeMarco Murray squaring off against his former team. Can you imagine if Murray scores a few touchdowns against the Cowboys in an Eagles win while Joseph Randle and/or Darren McFadden do nothing? And if Miles Austin records a touchdown pass, it won't be long before people point out how the Cowboys are still paying him over $5 million this year.

Philadelphia has an early opportunity to stick it to Dallas and prove they're the best team in the NFC East. This should be a great game that sets up an even better rematch later on in the season.

3) at New York Jets (Sept. 27, 1:00 PM)

If Sam Bradford isn't starting this week for some reason, the major angle will be all about how Mark Sanchez is playing against his former team. The NFL narrative gods are just praying for that to happen. If Bradford's healthy, the angle will be more about how Todd Bowles is coaching against the team where he used to be a defensive coordinator.

The Jets have gotten a lot of credit for having a strong offseason. They've improved their secondary by bringing back Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie. Adding Leonard Williams to their already-stacked defensive line just doesn't seem fair. Despite their strong defense, however, the Jets are still likely trotting out Geno Smith at quarterback.

The Eagles are 9-0 all-time against the New York Jets. Going 10-0 is definitely a possibility.

4) at Washington Redskins (Oct 4., 1:00 PM)

Philadelphia's last game at FedEx Field was not very pretty for them. Washington doesn't appear to be a very good team yet again, but division games can also be tougher than they appear on paper. It's hard not to think Byron Maxwell might have better luck covering DeSean Jackson than Bradley Fletcher had.

Is a 4-0 record possible?

Sure, though a 3-1 record is probably more likely. There are no elite teams in this group. I think the Eagles definitely win at least two of these games.

Tomorrow I'll preview the second quarter of the Eagles schedule. For now, what say you about these four games? Where will the Eagles stand after the first quarter?

The entire 2015 NFL schedule was released on Tuesday night and the Philadelphia Eagles learned more than a quarter of their games will be featured in prime-time. Read on for rankings of the best and worst weeks.

1) Week 1 - @ Atlanta Falcons (Sept. 14, 7:10 PM, ESPN) *Monday Night Football*

This pick doesn't have to do with the opponent as much as it does with the fact that the Eagles have had such a crazy offseason and it will be exciting to see how the team actually looks. Plus, Chip Kelly is 3-0 in Monday Night Football games. He might very well be able to go 4-0.

Last game: - 2012 Eagles lose, 30-17

2) Week 13 - @ New England Patriots (Dec. 6, 4:25 PM, FOX)

This matchup should have been featured in the 2015 NFL kickoff game, but it didn't happen. Instead, the Chip Kelly versus Bill Belichick matchup will take place in the second half of the season. I'm guessing we'll have a good sense of the Eagles by that point but this game could say a lot about the team's readiness to compete for a championship. Beating the defending champions in their house would be big. It'd be even more hilarious if the game is decided on a successful Tim Tebow two point conversion. Tebow > Brady!

Last game: 2011 Eagles lose, 38-20

3) Week 2 - Dallas Cowboys (Sept. 20, 4:25 PM, FOX)

The last Eagles-Cowboys game at the Linc didn't go so well for the Birds. They'll be thirsty for revenge here. I have a feeling DeMarco Murray and Miles Austin will have big games against their former team this season.

Last game: 2014 Eagles lose, 38-27

4) Week 9 - @ Dallas Cowboys (Nov. 8, 8:30 PM, NBC) *Sunday Night Football*

I'm double dipping with Dallas here. This is the game the Eagles will be playing after their Week 8 bye so the Birds will be rested and fans will be eager for football again.

Last game: 2014 Eagles lose, 38-27

5) Week 12 - @ Detroit Lions (Nov. 26 ,12:30 PM, FOX) *Thanksgiving Game*

Another Thanksgiving game. The Detroit defense looked pretty tough last year but they've had some losses. The last time these two teams met was the epic Snow Bowl game. The elements won't have an impact on the game this time but I think it'll be a good matchup between two similarly-tiered NFC playoff contenders.

Last game: 2013 Eagles win, 34-20

6) Week 6 - New York Giants (Oct 19, 8:30 PM, ESPN) *Monday Night Football*

The Eagles shut out the Giants 27-0 in Week 6 last year. It's hard to imagine they will do the same, but this should be a pretty good MNF game because it's guaranteed both teams will be (at least) somewhat alive in the standings.

Last game: Eagles win, 34-26

7) Week 15 - Arizona Cardinals (Dec. 20, 1:00 PM, FOX)

I feel like the Eagles and Cardinals are almost division rivals given their games the past two years. Bruce Arians' digs at Chip Kelly only add fuel to the fire.

Last game: 2014 Eagles lose, 24-20

8) Week 14 - Buffalo Bills (Dec. 13, 1:00 PM, CBS)

LeSean McCoy returns to Philadelphia. How will the fans react? How will he perform against the Eagles strong front seven? What will he say about the Eagles in the media leading up to the game? This should make for a fun one despite being out of conference.

Last game: 2011 Eagles lose, 31-24

9) Week 17 - @ New York Giants (Jan. 3, 1:00 PM)

This game might deserve to be higher but as of right now I'm assuming there's a chance it might not matter. Therefore, I don't want to rank it too high.

Last game: Eagles win, 34-26

10) Week 7 - @ Carolina Panthers (Oct. 25, 8:30 PM, NBC) *Sunday Night Football*

I feel like the Panthers might rebound a little in 2015 but I'm not sure. Out of all the Eagles primetime games, I feel like this has the biggest potential to be a dud. Now that I said that, watch it be a great game.

Last game: 2014 Eagles win, 45-21

11) Week 4 - @ Washington Redskins (Oct. 4, 1:00 PM, FOX)

Division game, DeSean Jackson angle, etc.

12) Week 5 - New Orleans Saints (Oct. 11, 1:00 PM, FOX)

It seems forever ago that the Eagles and Saints played in a playoff game. This game won't be nearly as intriguing. The Saints just aren't very good on the road so the matchup loses some intrigue.

Last game: 2014 NFL playoffs, Eagles lose 26-24

13) Week 16 - Washington Redskins (Dec. 26, 8:25 PM, NFL Network) *Saturday*

The game certainly lived up to my incredibly low expectation, so I'll do the same this for this season. Saturday games are just weird and wrong.

Last game: 2014 Eagles lose, 27-24

14) Week 3 - @ New York Jets (Sept. 27, 1:00 PM, FOX)

The Chip Kelly versus Todd Bowles matchup is something to watch. The Jets' quarterback situation just isn't that inspiring, though, and I'm saying that as an Eagles writer.

Last game: 2011 Eagles win, 45-19

15) Week 10 - Miami Dolphins (Nov. 15, 1:00 PM, CBS)

Out of conference opponent, 1:00 PM game, bleh. The only interesting angle here is the Bill Lazor connection, which really isn't that interesting. But it's enough to not be the worst ranked game.

Last game: 2011 Eagles win, 26-10

16) Week 11 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Nov. 22, 1:00 PM)

The Bucs were the worst team in the NFL in 2014. I think they'll be better in 2015, but I'm not sure by how much. I guess it'll be interesting to see how Jameis Winston does.

Last game: 2013 Eagles win, 31-20

*Insert Tim Tebow joke*

You may have noticed that there are a few oddities on the Eagles 2015 schedule. The team will play in Philadelphia only once during their first four games. As a result, the Eagles will host three home games in a row in December for the first time in franchise history.

Why did the schedule shape up like this? According to Peter King of The MMQB, it was the Pope who (indirectly) influenced the schedule.

"Phillies conflicts in Weeks 1 and 4, and a letter from Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput to commissioner Roger Goodell (the archbishop spelled it "Rodger") last July 8 respectfully requested the NFL not play in Philadelphia on the Sunday of Week 3, the day Pope Francis is scheduled to hold a mass for an estimated 2 million people on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway outside the Philadelphia Art Museum. In October, Katz wrote the archbishop to say the Eagles would be out of town that weekend … 93 miles up the New Jersey Turnpike to play the Jets on that afternoon, Sept. 27. 'Yes,' Katz said, finally able to relax Tuesday evening in his scheduling den. 'The pope did influence the NFL schedule. My name may be Katz, but I wasn’t taking any chances.'"

As noted above, the Phillies also made an impact when it came to the season opener.

"Katz understands it’s been the Offseason of Chip. The Eagles couldn’t conflict with a Phillies home weekend, so a Monday night game at Atlanta was the seed the group planted here."

One potential concern about the Eagles schedule that I didn't realize earlier is that they're going to have to play on the same field one day after the Army-Navy game is held at Lincoln Financial Field. Usually the Eagles try to avoid this dilemma, but they couldn't this year.

"Surprise! Eagles maxed out their prime-time appearances at five, including three straight in midseason: Giants on Monday, Carolina and Dallas on Sunday night … Did you notice the three-game homestand in December? The Eagles requested the weekend of Dec. 13 on the road, because the Army-Navy game is at Lincoln Financial Field on Dec. 12. The league tried but couldn’t accommodate Philadelphia, and so a three-game homestand was the result … And this from Michael North of the NFL, on whether the pope’s visit gave the Eagles three of the first four on the road: "If the pope were not there this year, given the Phillies’ blocks in Weeks 1 and 4 because of their home games, the Eagles most likely would have been home in Weeks 2 and 3.""
