Sproles Train.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that running back/punt returner/offensive weapon/bundle of joy Darren Sproles has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 10 of the 2014 NFL season.

The award is well deserved. Sproles returned three punts in Philadelphia's blowout victory over the Carolina Panthers for 85 yards including a 65-yard touchdown score.

The award marks just the third time Sproles has been named Special Teams Player of the Week during his career. It's his fourth career Player of the Week award. Three of those four career awards have come in this season. Sproles was named Offensive Player of the Week in Week 2 and Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 4.

To make matters even more impressive, Sproles is just the second NFL player ever to win two Special Teams Player of the Week and one Offensive Player of the Week in same season. Former Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson did it in 2009.

On Monday night, Sproles joined DeSean Jackson (two in 2009) and Brian Westbrook (two in 2003) as the only Eagles with multiple punt return scores in the same season. Only Jackson (four) has more punt return touchdowns in his Eagles career and Sproles has only played in eight games with the team. Sproles has seven career return touchdowns, tying him with Tedd Ginn Jr. for fourth among active players. He trails only Devin Hester (19), Jacoby Jones (9) and Leon Washington (8).

Sproles is averaging 17.0 yards per punt return this year, which is the best ever by an Eagles player in a single season or a career.

Sproles continues to make the Eagles look brilliant (and the New Orleans Saints look bad) for trading away a fifth round pick in the offseason to acquire him. The 31-year old veteran has been extremely critical to Philadelphia's success.

Highlights from the Eagles' 45-21 win over the Carolina Panthers.

The Philadelphia Eagles took care of business at home on Monday Night Football with a dominating win over the Carolina Panthers, 45-21. The Eagles advanced to 7-2 on the season, which is the team's best start since 2004.

At the risk of soundly extremely cliche, it was a complete team effort. All three phases came to play. Mark Sanchez connected with Jordan Matthews for two scores as the offense put up a total of 21 points in the game. The Philadelphia defense came away with five turnovers and also produced nine sacks on Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. The Eagles special teams unit provided a touchdown via the form of a Darren Sproles punt return. You really can't say the Eagles are one-dimensional.

It was an exciting win for a team that has gone undefeated at home in their last nine regular season games. In that span, they have scored opponents 313-168 for an average of 34.8 to 18.7 per game.

OFFENSE

Best

Brent Celek +6.0
Jason Peters +4.7
Evan Mathis +3.6
Jordan Matthews +3.1
Lane Johnson +1.4
Zach Ertz +1.4
Mark Sanchez +1.0

Analysis:

Brent Celek graded out well as a blocker, which is hardly a surprise. Celek has been limited in the passing attack all season but he earns his playing time by doing the dirty work. On Monday night, however, Celek was a huge weapon as a pass catcher. The veteran caught five receptions for 116 yards. He was just an all-around stud.

Left tackle Jason Peters finished with a strong night as both a run blocker and a pass protector. The same goes for left guard Evan Mathis, who made his return to action against Carolina. The strong duo of Peters and Mathis on the left side of Philadelphia's offensive line is back.

Rookie slot receiver Jordan Matthews was targeted early and often by Mark Sanchez and had a great night: seven catches for 138 yards and two touchdown scores. 67 of his yards came from running after the catch. He could have had even more yards had not he been stopped by shoestring tackles by Carolina defenders on two notable plays.

Lane Johnson was all-around solid. Zach Ertz only caught one pass for 17 yards but he graded out positively as a blocker. Perhaps that's an encouraging sign for Ertz moving forward.

Mark Sanchez obviously finished with an impressive performance. The veteran threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns. (It would have been three had not Celek been ruled down at the 1-yard line.) His accuracy could have been better (20/37) but note that at least three of his passes were dropped. If those passes were caught, he would be looking at a 62.2% completion rate instead of 54.1%.

Worst

LeSean McCoy -3.7
Jason Kelce -3.4
Matt Tobin -1.9
Darren Sproles -1.2

Analysis:

Running back LeSean McCoy only gained 19 yards on 12 attempts. He also dropped two passes on three targets. Just not a great night for McCoy.

Center Jason Kelce was marked down in pass protection. Some of his snaps were high and that may have factored into the grade. He allowed two quarterback hurries and also committed two penalties. Right guard Matt Tobin allowed three hurries.

Note that Darren Sproles' punt return isn't factored into his offensive grade. Sproles was marked down for allowing a quarterback hit in pass protection and dropping a third-down catch early in the game.

Analysis:

The Eagles defense was dominant on Monday night. Cam Newton was sacked a total of nine times.

Notching his first sack of the season was Fletcher Cox. The third-year defensive end racked up a whopping seven hurries on 30 pass rush snaps. He was also effective in the run game.

Cornerback Bradley Fletcher turned in a good performance with only two catches allowed on nine targets. He recorded two passes defensed while also returning an interception to the house for a score. Fletcher also recorded five tackles without missing any.

Veteran outside linebacker Trent Cole finished with one sack, four hurries, and five tackles. He was also strong against the run.

Cary Williams allowed some garbage time touchdowns to Kelvin Benjamin but completely shut down the rookie receiver when the game was actually competitive. Williams also intercepted Newton early in the game.

Brandon Graham continues to push for extended playing time. In 19 pass rush snaps, Graham finished with one and half sacks, one hit, one hurry, and a forced fumble. (Pay the man.)

Connor Barwin led all Eagles defenders in sacks with three and a half. He also recorded two hurries along with several run stops.

Nate Allen finished with three tackles, one interception, and one pass defensed.

Worst

Bennie Logan -1.7

Notes:

Nothing too interesting here. Some backup players saw increased playing time due to the Eagles' big lead late in the game. For example, Matt Barkley saw his first snaps of the 2014 season.

Despite not being very active as a pass-catcher, second-year tight end Zach Ertz did get a fairly decent amount of playing time. It's clear Brent Celek is still ahead of him, though, and for good reason. Celek has been the better blocker and the veteran proved on Monday night that he's still a threat in the passing attack.

If Riley Cooper continues to struggle as he has, it's really time for the Eagles to work in Josh Huff more often. The problem is that Huff has also struggled during his opportunities.

Notes:

Brandon Graham played a season-high 49% of the team's defensive snaps. Usually he's around the mid-30% range. Graham has excelled during limited playing time and he continues to deserve more. He's been very effective not only as a pass rusher but also as a run stuffer.

With DeMeco Ryans out, Emmanuel Acho and Casey Matthews nearly split time evenly at inside linebacker.

Brandon Boykin only played 27% of the team's snaps due to the formations Carolina was using.

First round pick Marcus Smith II got on the field for a limited number of snaps.

Special team aces Chris Maragos and Bryan Braman saw some action late in the game.

Because of course.

It didn't take long, but Mark Sanchez is already winning the hearts and minds of Philadelphia. As if the veteran quarterback's strong performance during the Eagles' 45-21 win over the Carolina Panthers wasn't enough, Sanchez celebrated the victory with a pair of post-game Philly cheesesteaks. Watch the video here, via Katherine Scott of 6 ABC.

It turns out that Sanchez hadn't even eaten a Philly cheesesteak since signing with the team in March. Prior to Monday's game, Sanchez made a promise that he would go to Pat's and Geno's if the Eagles won. He clearly lived up to his word.

Definitely give the video a watch. I especially like how there's no hesitation from Sanchez when a Philadelphia fan offers him some of his food.

"Mark, I want you to have my cheesefries!"

"Alriiiiiiiiight! Thanks, brother."

While it's hard not to be impressed with what Sanchez has accomplished so far, the once-maligned quarterback still has a lot to prove considering the Eagles have some tough games coming up on their schedule. For now, though, Eagles fans can enjoy Sanchez's greasy baptism into the Philadelphia culture.

The Eagles clearly dig playing at home. They also fancy primetime.

The Eagles are now 7-2 after owning the Panthers at home on Monday, 45-21. Philadelphia used all three phases of the game to hammer a Carolina team that seemingly lost its will to compete following the first half. Chip Kelly and Co. proved that primetime is their time, as the team continued its streak of night game dominance.

Winners

Darren Sproles: This guy is just one of the best players on the field on a weekly basis. He may be older but he consistently proves that age isn't a factor. He had a rushing touchdown and an awesome punt return score that had anyone with a pulse yelling and screaming with joy (unless you're a Carolina fan, but who cares about them?). He's an X-Factor and has been all season.

Jordan Matthews: Well, hello there... The Mark Sanchez-Jordan Matthews combo is just ridiculous. This was like playing a game of catch, as Matthews collected seven grabs for 138 yards and two scores. I am pretty sure that he will bottom out at 850 receiving yards and eight touchdowns at worse with Sanchez in the lineup. Sanchez set him up for big YAC opportunities that he didn't have with Nick Foles.

Connor Barwin: Folks like to say that Connor Barwin isn't a pass rusher. That may be the case, but he has 10.5 sacks through nine games and is the most complete linebacker that the Eagles have had since 2004. Barwin spied on Cam Newton all night and won that matchup by a mile. With 3.5 sacks, he put himself out there on primetime.

Brent Celek: Long been the forgotten man, Celek unloaded for 116 receiving yards on just five catches and luckily avoided a major ankle injury. Celek has been a key figure of this franchise for years, but this was likely his best outing in at least two seasons, perhaps three. He also had a great block on Sproles' first score of the game.

Mark Sanchez: While he struggled a bit early, Sanchez finished with 20 completions on 37 passes for 322 passing yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 102.5. Outside of maybe the Washington game, this was the best performance for an Eagles quarterback this season. Sanchez looked poised in the pocket and stepped up well when faced with pressure. He made some poor throws but was decisive and went through his progressions well. He wasn't spectacular but he was definitely more than solid.

Brandon Graham: He is going to make some crazy money this off-season, no matter the scheme. He currently has 4.5 sacks and four forced fumbles (as many sacks as Trent Cole, but more forced fumbles) as a rotational player in a scheme that he doesn't fit well. Oh, and he's also improved tremendously as a run-stopper. Graham needs to get paid by the Eagles or they will lose him.

Vinny Curry: He now has five sacks on the year and two forced fumbles. He's another non-scheme fit that has excelled this year. Good for him.

Bradley Fletcher: After months of scrutiny, Fletcher had perhaps his best game as an Eagle on Monday. He had five pass breakups and a pick six. Fletcher took advantage of the slow feet of the Panthers wide receivers.

Mychal Kendricks: Once again, he made plays. He came free on a blitz and sacked Newton. He also played the run very well.

Cedric Thornton: He had a fumble recovery and looked dominant against the run. He needs to get paid now!

Special Teams: All-around terrific performance from the crew. Bryan Braman stoned Fozzy Whittaker on the first return of the game. The Panthers had one decent return but otherwise, the Eagles dominated this phase. Cody Parkey was perfect, while making his only field goal attempt and six PATs.

Billy Davis: Well done. His unit had nine sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. Five of those turnovers led to 24 points. Davis gets a lot of criticism, but he has called solid games for the majority of the season.

Losers

Run Game: While the Panthers paid for focusing too much on the run, the Eagles only ran for 38 yards with their running backs on 18 carries. LeSean McCoy scored for only the second time this season, but averaged less than two yards per carry. Sproles scored on his only run, but wasn't used moving forward. Chris Polk only had 11 yards on two carries.

Zach Ertz: Again, he was nowhere to be found. He was targeted twice and only caught one ball for 17 yards. It makes you wonder if he is going to be punished by the increase in targets to Matthews (and Celek, of course). Either way, the team is winning but we expected better from a guy that Michael Vick branded special.

[Ed. note: Panthers rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin receives honorable mention in the Losers section. See below.]
