Easy choice.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that running back Darren Sproles has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2014 NFL season.

Congrats, @DarrenSproles on your 2nd career Player of Week Award (1st for offense). #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/BTj5wnkJOA

Believe it or not, it's actually the first time Sproles has been named Offensive Player of the Week. The Eagles also pointed out that in the past 20 years, Sproles is the only NFL running back with two 50+ yard catches and a touchdown run in same game.

Sproles has obviously been very crucial to the Eagles' come-from-behind performances in the first two weeks of the season. Against the Colts, Philadelphia's veteran running back caught 7 passes for a total of 152 yards (21.7 average). Sproles also rushed for 26 yards on 4 carries including a 19-yard touchdown run.

In Sproles' first game with Eagles, he broke a career-high by rushing for 49 yards on one play. In Sproles' second game with the Eagles, he broke a career-high mark in receiving yards with 152.

Only time will tell what Sproles does from here on out, but he's already proven to be worth the price of the fifth round pick that the Eagles traded away to acquire him. You really have to wonder if the 0-2 New Orleans Saints regret trading him away.

Darren Sproles +2.9
Zach Ertz +2.1
Jason Peters +1.6

Analysis:

No surprise to see Sproles and Ertz on this list. For the second straight week, Sproles jump-started the Eagles offensive with explosive plays. The veteran running back caught 7 passes for a career-high total of 152 receiving yards (21.7 average). Sproles also rushed for 26 yards on 4 carries including a 19-yard touchdown run.

Ertz, on the other hand, finished with 4 catches on 6 targets for 86 yards. He's a mismatch nightmare.

Offensive tackle Jason Peters was strong as ever on the outside.

Worst

Riley Cooper -3.5
Todd Herremans -2.3
Jordan Matthews -1.8

Analysis:

Cooper had a terrible game. He caught 1pass on 3 targets for a mere 8 yards. He dropped two passes including a one in the end-zone for a would-be touchdown. Cooper is currently PFF's overall lowest graded wide receiver in the entire league: 111th out of 111 receivers.

Herremans allowed 2 quarterback hurries in pass protection. He graded out even worse as a run blocker, however.

Matthews was targeted 4 times but only reeled in 1 pass for 17 yards. PFF marked Matthews down for only one drop but it seemed like there were at least two or three total. Not a great game for the Eagles' much-hyped second round pick from the 2014 NFL Draft.

DEFENSE

Best

DeMeco Ryans +3.1
Malcolm Jenkins +1.6

Analysis:

Ryans graded out very positively as a run defender. He finished with 11 tackles (only 1 missed tackle), 2 assisted tackles, 5 stops, and 1 QB hit.

Jenkins missed a few tackles against the run but he graded out well in coverage. He was only targeted once and didn't allow a catch. He recorded one pass defensed and one (clutch) interception.

Worst

Analysis:

Barwin was OK as a pass rusher but he graded negatively as a run defender and in pass coverage. PFF held Barwin responsible for 2 Indianapolis touchdown catches.

Bair, Beau Allen, and Nate Allen all struggled in run defense. Bair and Beau Allen didn't record a single stat.

Cole was OK against the run but struggled as a pass rusher. He only recorded one quarterback hurry the entire game.

Graham committed a costly offsides penalty on 3rd and short that gave the Colts a first down. Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck drew Graham to move early with a hard count.

Matthews missed an open field tackle on Colts running back Trent Richardson at one point and was just generally really bad.

Here are some picture highlights from the Eagles' 30-27 win over the Colts

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night, September 15th, 2014. Philadelphia moved to 2-0 on the 2014 NFL season with a 30-27 victory. Undrafted rookie free agent kicker Cody Parkey, whom the Eagles acquired from the Colts in a trade this August, booted a 38-yard field goal to earn the win as time expired.

Once again, it was far from a pretty win. The Eagles were down at 20-6 at one point before roaring back for the second straight come-from-behind week in as many weeks.

Darren Sproles was vital in Philadelphia's win. The veteran running back caught 7 passes for a career-high total of 152 yards (21.7 average). Sproles also rushed for 26 yards on 4 carries including a 19-yard touchdown run.

On defense, young stud defensive end Fletcher Cox came up big with a forced fumble.

The Eagles are now 2-0 and in sole possession of first place in the NFC East. Not a bad start.

The biggest takeaway from the offensive snaps is that Zach Ertz surpassed Brent Celek. It was just a slight margin (6%) but it's clear the Eagles went to get Ertz on the field more, and rightfully so. Philadelphia also dialed down Jordan Matthews' snaps this week. He played 66% of the snaps in Week 1 to only 50% against the Colts. It seems Darren Sproles will likely hover around that high 30% mark for most of the season. He obviously makes the most out of his snaps.

Nothing too out of the ordinary here. Mychal Kendricks left the game early with a calf injury but is expected to be OK. Both Nolan Carroll II and Earl Wolff played less than they did in Week 1. Wolff didn't even register a single snap on defense.

Here's proof.

One of the most crucial plays for the Philadelphia Eagles in their Week 2 Monday Night Football victory over the Indianapolis Colts was a Malcolm Jenkins interception with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Colts were up 27-20 at the time and had moved into scoring territory at Philadelphia's 22-yard line. Indianapolis quarterback threw a pass that went directly to Jenkins. It almost looked too easy for the Eagles. Here's the play:

It was easy to see why the interception took place. Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, whom Luck was targeting, fell down as the ball came his way. Eagles slot cornerback Brandon Boykin was in coverage. It appeared as Boykin may have gotten away with pass interference and/or illegal contact. But did he?

After watching that play over and over, I'm just not seeing where the flag should have been. Someone over at r/Eagles did a nice frame-by-frame breakdown of the play and came to the same conclusion. Big credit to reddit user "im_at_work_now" (great name).

Here's the breakdown, along with captions:

Within 5 yards: Here we can clearly see that contact occurred within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. That means contact is legal. But, a hold still is not, so let's look at whether it was pass interference or a hold or not.

Ball still in Luck's hands when contact starts: Because Luck hasn't thrown the ball when contact occurred, pass interference is off the table. For it to be a hold, Boykin would have to visibly grab and pull the jersey of Hilton. But wait, is that Hilton reaching out into Boykin too?

Why yes it is: Notice that Hilton is leaning far to his right, showing he was trying to make a quick cut back outside. He reaches out to push off Boykin for help, while Boykin reaches out to break up the timing of the route. Notice no pulling of the jersey is seen.

How to physics? Finally we see Hilton falling away from Boykin, in the direction of his cut. A hold would pull Hilton's torso in toward Boykin, away from the cut he was making, while Hilton's legs would be attempting to run toward the outside. Instead we see the opposite, with Hilton's legs underneath him while he cuts away from Boykin and falls in the direction he tried to cut. Yes, there was contact. No there wasn't a hold. Contact inside of 5 yards is legal, and so is this play.

...

And there you have it.
