The results are in, and there's a surprise!

The latest installment of ProFootballTalk's "Mount Rushmore" series features the Philadelphia Eagles. Leading up to this unveiling, we've done different versions of Eagles Mount Rushmores by coaching eras here at BGN.

Mount Rushmore: Dick Vermeil Era Buddy Ryan Era Andy Reid Era

Who made PFT's final cut? Mike Florio chose Chuck Bednarik, Andy Reid, Reggie White and Steve Van Buren.

For once, I actually agree with Florio on something. This is a reasonable selection that's representative of multiple eras of Eagles football.

The voters at PFT differed from Florio as they chose White, Bednarik, Randall Cunningham, and Brian Dawkins.

Chuck Bednarik (more on his legacy here) and Reggie White are easy selections that aren't worth debating. Andy Reid obviously wasn't a player, but he was the greatest coach in franchise history. The successful impact he's had on the organization was huge. Dawkins is definitely among the Eagles greats, but isn't a unanimous lock.

The biggest surprise there is Randall Cunningham. That's not to slight Cunningham, who was a pretty great player. The problem is that he's not even the franchise's best quarterback. Love him or hate him, that honor easily goes to Donovan McNabb. I have to imagine the McNabb vote suffers with people who simply didn't like him. The downfall of voting competitions like this one is that popularity, among other biases, can skew the results.

Even if you don't think McNabb is worthy of the vote, the argument for the much heralded Van Buren over Cunningham instead is strong.

PFT did note that the vote for the fourth spot was "as close as any vote [they've] ever conducted" so far in this series.

As of Tuesday morning, Randall Cunningham, Norm Van Brocklin, Steve Van Buren, and Donovan McNabb were bunched together for the final spot. As the day unfolded, it tightened up between Cunningham and Van Brocklin, with McNabb fading. Eventually, Cunningham pulled away, and Van Buren passed Van Brocklin for the fifth spot.

Remember, this series all boils down to being an arbitrary exercise that's just meant to strike up discussion about some of the greatest Eagles players in franchise history. It's just for fun.

That said, what does your final All-Time Philadelphia Eagles Mount Rushmore look like?

Below is Mike Florio talking about his picks on CSN.

One thing to note about these Buddy and Vermeil teams. Some of these players may not exactly be considered a core of those eras, they may have only overlapped a bit. But they do deserve to be on a list of great Eagles, so I added them into the best era I could.

PFT has been voting on a Mount Rushmore of great players for every team. But what if for the Eagles, we broke it down by era?

In a series started yesterday, we here at BGN are constructing separate "Mount Rushmores" in which we try to find a consensus for the pivotal players of every major era of Eagles football. We started with the Andy Reid era, today we'll look at the Buddy Ryan era and on Monday we'll move on to Dick Vermeil.

We continue with the Buddy Ryan era, which young Eagles fans might not quite remember as it stretched from the mid 80s to the very early 90s. That said, most of the fanbase still looks back on this era with great fondness. This team was never nearly as successful as the Andy Reid teams, but Ryan's Eagles had more attitude than probably any era in Eagles history and fans really took to that.

You can make your Mount Rushmore however you like (as long as it's only 4 guys), but to help I listed all the most notable Eagles from the Ryan era.

PFT has been voting on a Mount Rushmore of great players for every team. But what if for the Eagles, we broke it down by era?

Unless you are not an American or in case the American education system has really failed you... Mount Rushmore is a memorial in South Dakota on which 4 great U.S. presidents have their faces engraved on the face of a mountain (Mount Rushmore coincidently!).

Mike Florio has tried to apply this same concept to football coming up with a Mount Rushmore more each NFL team. You can vote on his choices here if you're interested, but I wanted to try something different. What if we created a Mount Rushmore for every major Eagles era?

In most of our lifetimes, there have been 3 significant eras in recent Eagles history. The Dick Vermiel era, the Buddy Ryan era and the Andy Reid era. So I wanted to create a Mount Rushmore for each. We may also do all time Eagles coaching, early era Eagles and finally a full all time version as well.

Let's start with the most era and the one where pretty much everyone reading this site should be most familiar with. You can make your Mount Rushmore however you like (as long as it's only 4 guys), but to help I listed all the most notable Eagles from the Reid era.
