Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
The Eagles need to trade for a wide receiver - PhillyVoice
Noah Brown, Texans: Brown has been in the NFL for six seasons, and it took him a little while to become a productive receiver. He and Kellen Moore were in Dallas together for six seasons. But it was 2023 when Brown had something of a breakthrough season. He had 33 catches for 567 yards (a very good 17.2 YPC) and two TDs in just 10 games. He had two monster games in a pair of Texans shootout wins: six catches on six targets for 153 yards and a TD in a 39-37 win over the Bucs. Seven catches on eight targets for 172 yards in a 30-27 win over the Bengals. He has good size at 6’2, 215, and plays like it. In 2023, Brown’s snaps were about 40:60 slot vs. outside, so he can do both. Other popular names that I have seen thrown around are Tyler Lockett (Seahawks), John Metchie (Texans), and Treylon Burks (Titans). But, you know, Howie Roseman has the other general managers’ phone numbers so he’s in a better position than me to see who is actually available. The point is... he should be making those calls.
10 bold predictions for the 2024 Eagles - BGN
Johnny Wilson Catches 40+ Passes as the Regular Slot Receiver. There’s something about 6th-round pick slot receivers that the Eagles really like. And like Quez Watkins before him, Wilson appears to have the inside track on the Birds’ No. 3 receiver gig. If that happens, I believe Wilson will at least match Watkins’ production in 2021 when, as a second year player, he caught 43 balls for 647 yards as the slot receiver.
How a Jeff Stoutland hunch transformed Mekhi Becton into a starting guard - NBCSP
At 6-foot-7, 365 pounds, Becton is ridiculously big and tall for a guard. He’s got to stay low so shorter interior lineman can’t get under him and gain leverage. And the taller you are, the harder that is. Especially later in a game if you get tired and start to lose your technique. “If you stand up and you’re playing a shorter nose guard, it’s hard because they got leverage but again, that’s why we don’t play football standing straight up and down,” Landon Dickerson said. “There’s a lot of pros (to Becton’s size). Longer arms, longer reach can help guys a lot.” No guard in NFL history Becton’ size has ever been a full-time starter. According to Stathead, the largest guard to start 10 games in a season is former Card and Cowboy Leonard Davis, who weighed 355. There have been six other guards 6-8 or taller. Dickerson stands 6-foot-6, 335 pounds, and no team in NFL history has ever had two guards both at least 6-6 and 330 pounds. “Mekhi’s been doing great,” Dickerson said after practice Sunday. “Transitioning to guard, I think he’s done well. Started off camp kind of swinging tackles, but I think he’s settling into his spot at guard right now.
Spadaro: Learning more and more about Fangiology - PE.com
Example 1: When talking about the “nickel” position and the “cornerback” position, Fangio made it very clear that they are different positions and require different skill sets. Did you know that? Did any reporter in the audience know that? I sure didn’t, to be transparent. I’ve always viewed a nickel player as an inside cornerback, but that’s not how Fangio sees it. “It’s universal,” Fangio said when asked about No. 1 draft pick Quinyon Mitchell and his role, either in the nickel or as an outside cornerback. “Nickel essentially is really a linebacker position. You know, if you go back to the traditional 4-3, if you stayed in a 4-3, a linebacker would be walked out on that slot. Well, the linebacker leaves the game and now you’re in nickel and the nickel is on that slot. “So essentially when you pare it down, he’s playing linebacker-type zones more involved at the run than a corner is. So, it’s a drastically different position.” Very interesting. Let’s keep an eye on that to further our football knowledge.
Reports: Haason Reddick asks for a trade from the Jets - Gang Green Nation
I struggle to think of a situation that has any similarities to this one in the past. At this point, it feels like the Jets have taken a contract standoff off the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles and paid them a third round pick for their trouble. We will see how far Reddick is willing to take this. He has already accumulated over $1 million in fines for sitting out training camp, a number which is growing by the day. Reddick is set to make over $14 million in salary this season. Would he be willing to forego some to all of it by sitting out in the regular season? That remains to be seen, but this would seem to increase the odds.
Joe Douglas: We have informed Haason Reddick that we will not trade him - PFT
Reports emerged on Monday afternoon that Haason Reddick had requested a trade from the Jets. New York has no intention of granting it. “We have informed Haason that we will not trade him, that he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report,” G.M. Joe Douglas said in a statement released by the team. “Since the trade discussions back in March, we have been clear, direct, and consistent with our position. Our focus will remain on the guys we have here as we prepare for the regular season.”
Chargers sign LB Shaquille Quarterman - Bolts From The Blue
Early Monday morning, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Chargers are signing free agent linebacker Shaquille Quarterman. Quarterman had recently been signed to a one-year deal by the Eagles on August 5th but found himself cut less than a week later.
Adam Schefter rants on Dallas Cowboys, CeeDee Lamb: ‘It would be utterly stupid if it did not get done’ - Blogging The Boys
The words don’t properly convey Schefter’s tone which was a bit raised. He wasn’t shouting like he was running into battle, but there was an elevation of sorts involved which makes sense given how annoying this whole thing has been. Schefter said it best in that it is disappointing that we are still here and that everybody knew this situation was coming. He additionally added that we know what the number should be. I am not trying to speak for Adam but he almost basically said that the dots are laid out and they simply need to be connected now. Are the Cowboys willing to draw that line? The one for CeeDee to sign on? You would think yes given all of his career accomplishments to date. But somehow, some way, here we are.
Malik Nabers injury: Star rookie is ‘day-to-day’ - Big Blue View
New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers appears to have avoided a major injury after leaving the team’s practice early on Sunday. Giants coach Brian Daboll said Monday that Nabers is “day-to-day” with a left ankle sprain. Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been a star of training camp for the Giants. He limped off the field late in Sunday’s practice, but did not immediately go inside the team’s facility to have the ankle looked at. He even sat for an interview with Kay Adams after practice. Nabers won’t practice Monday. Daboll said the Giants don’t believe there is a fracture in the ankle and he will practice “whenever he’s ready.”
The Jets are the NFL’s most chaotic team - SB Nation
Offensively, what if Rogers is just decent? He doesn’t have to be the MVP he once was, especially if the defense is as good as it can be. If Rogers can be the most effective point guard in the NFL, getting the ball out extremely quick and hitting enough of the tough throws to keep defenses honest, it’s a good formula for success. RB Breece Hall should be a major player in this offense, with a commitment to the ground game accentuating around Hall’s strengths. On top of that, the Jets have the fourth easiest schedule in the entire league, per Sharp Football Analytics. They have enough time to really get things going and get Rogers back into the swing of playing football. With the expectations for the Jets sky high, they’ll be facing a lot of scrutiny from everywhere, including major New York media. However, this team of question marks may end the season with an exclamation point.
