D’Andre Swift ruled out of Eagles-Giants game

Philadelphia’s top RB won’t play in Week 18.

D’Andre Swift will NOT play in the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 18 game against the New York Giants, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

Swift was unexpectedly added to the Eagles’ injury report on Friday with an illness.

The guess here is he could play if he really had to but Philly is playing it safe since this game might end up being rather meaningless. The Eagles might not want to expose their leading rusher and Pro Bowl running back to the treacherous turf at MetLife Stadium.

Swift’s absence likely means the Eagles will have the following three running backs active: Kenny Gainwell, Boston Scott, and Rashaad Penny.

Gainwell is the favorite to take the bulk of RB touches with Scott naturally mixing in since it’s a Giants game. Scott’s last game against the G-Men was the first time he didn’t get into the end zone against them. (The coaching $taff better fix that thi$ time around.) Penny could see his first touches since Week 9. It’d be pretty hilarious/sad if he has a great game after curiously being a healthy scratch for most of the season.
