It’s not about having faith in the Birds. They very much do not deserve the benefit of the doubt.
It is about four things:
1) The Bucs have the potential to be worse. They looked pretty awful in their Week 18 win over the Carolina Panthers. Baker Mayfield, who is still hampered by injuries, missed a lot of throws that were there to be made. The Eagles had a 22-point lead on the Bucs earlier this year. Their 14-point margin of victory over Tampa is tied for their largest this season.
2) The Eagles won’t make this easy on us. A loss here would be relatively painless considering such low expectations. They’re totally going to win this game and get everyone’s hopes up for an inevitable loss to the Detroit Lions next weekend. Talk about the difference between a “it’s your year” team (Lions) and not (Eagles).
3) The Eagles have too many proud players to go quietly into the night. I just don’t see the likes of Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, and Lane Johnson potentially ending their careers with a whimper.
4) The vibes have seemingly shifted? Maybe the Cowboys losing in embarrassing fashion doesn’t actually change anything for the Eagles. But it feels like there’s a little less doom and gloom in the air after watching Dallas lose.
I’m not expecting it to be pretty. But the Eagles will get it done (or the Bucs will get it done less), whether you like it or not.
Will the Eagles beat the Buccaneers?
