Week 16 of the 2023 NFL regular season is here. To accompany your viewing experience, let’s run through a Philadelphia Eagles-focused rooting guide for all of the games.

NEW YORK GIANTS at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: The Eagles essentially need to win out to make sure they win the NFC East. They also need to get favorable results as it relates to the “strength of victory” (SOV) tiebreaker, which could very well be what elevates them ahead of Dallas if both teams end up having the same record.

The current standings via ESPN:

BUFFALO BILLS at LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (BILLS WON): This Saturday night game quietly went in the Eagles’ favor. The Bills winning worked towards improving the Eagles’ strength of victory AND the Chargers losing weakened the Cowboys’ strength of victory.

DALLAS COWBOYS at MIAMI DOLPHINS: The Cowboys losing this game likely won’t help in terms of giving the Eagles more margin for error. Barring an unlikely Cowboys loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 18, Dallas will own the tiebreakers if the Eagles lose another game. But the Cowboys losing obviously does help the Eagles when it comes to having an outright better record than Dallas. Root for the Dolphins.

DETROIT LIONS at MINNESOTA VIKINGS: The Lions currently control their path to getting the No. 2 seed. The Eagles would enjoy seeing them slip to have the chance to move back ahead of them. Also, the Vikings winning works towards improving the Eagles’ strength of victory. Root for the Vikings.

BALTIMORE RAVENS at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: The Niners will very likely be the No. 1 seed but a loss keeps the door open for the Eagles. Root for the Ravens.

GREEN BAY PACKERS at CAROLINA PANTHERS: Dallas beat the Panthers earlier this season so it’d be preferable to see Carolina lose to further weaken the Cowboys’ strength of victory. Also, don’t want the Commanders to have a chance at the No. 1 pick. Root for the Packers.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS at NEW YORK JETS: The Jets losing helps to weaken the Cowboys’ strength of victory. Also, the Commanders winning is obviously preferable when it comes to Washington damaging their draft positioning ... and giving the Jets a chance to get ahead of them and/or the Giants. Root for the Commanders.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS at TENNESSEE TITANS: The Seahawks losing helps to weaken the Cowboys’ strength of victory. Root for the Titans.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: The Bucs winning helps the Eagles’ strength of victory. Also, the Bucs winning is preferable when it comes to keeping the Saints away from the NFC South crown with Philly owning New Orleans’ second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Sorry, Dougie P. Root for the Bucs.

ARIZONA CARDINALS at CHICAGO BEARS: The Cardinals winning helps to improve the Eagles’ strength of victory, assuming Philly can beat Arizona in Week 17. Root for the Cardinals.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS at KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: The Chiefs winning helps the Eagles’ strength of victory. Root for the Chiefs.

The current 2024 NFL Draft order for non-playoff teams via Tankathon:

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS at ATLANTA FALCONS: Hard to hold out hope that this Falcons team can win and keep New Orleans away from the NFC South title. That hope instead goes to the Bucs. And so the Eagles should pivot to rooting against the Falcons so that Atlanta might be able to get ahead of the Giants and/or Commanders in the draft order. Root for the Colts.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS at DENVER BRONCOS: The Eagles want to see the Pats stay ahead of the Commanders and Giants in the draft order. Root for the Broncos.

CLEVELAND BROWNS at HOUSTON TEXANS: Doesn’t matter. If you want to be really petty, you can root for the Texans to win to make sure the 2024 first-round pick that Houston gives to Arizona will be less favorable as possible for Jonathan Gannon.
