Eagles open as double-digit home favorites against the Giants on Christmas

NFL: New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Despite losing three straight games, the Philadelphia Eagles are favored to win by double digits in Week 16.

The Birds are 10.5-point home favorites against the New York Giants in a game that will be played on Christmas Day, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

Can the Eagles actually break their losing streak?

The Giants clearly aren’t good.

They’re a 5-9 team that’s arguably worse than their record indicate. The G-Men rank 32nd in DVOA and 32nd in point differential.

The Eagles have consistently owned the Giants since 2008, going 24-6 in their last 30 meetings.

Nick Sirianni is 3-0 against Brian Daboll. Here’s how those three games went last year:

1) The Eagles beat the Giants at MetLife Stadium, 48 to 22. It was 48 to 14 before the Giants scored a garbage-time TD and two-point conversion.

2) The Eagles beat the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field, 22 to 16. This was Jalen Hurts’ first game back from missing two weeks due to a shoulder injury. The Eagles went with a conservative game plan knowing that they’d likely face the Giants again the next time they played.

3) The Eagles beat the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field, 38 to 7. This was Philly’s Divisional Round win after having a first-round bye. It was 28 to 0 until the Giants finally got on the board late in the third quarter. So, it was never really even competitive.

The 2023 Eagles clearly aren’t the 2022 Eagles, though.

One would be remiss to put it past the Birds to lose this game.

The Giants entered Week 15 on a three-game winning streak with Tommy DeVito unexpectedly providing a spark. And then he struggled in a 24 to 6 road loss to the New Orleans Saints.

I do think the Giants are even worse than the Eagles, so I think Philly wins this game by being less bad. But I don’t trust the Birds to cover.
