The Philadelphia Eagles traded for All-Pro safety Kevin Byard on Monday! We already know he’s a good player but let’s get to know him even better by hearing from a Tennessee Titans perspective. Here’s what Jimmy Morris of Music City Miracles had to say about Byard through answers to my questions.
1 - How would you recap Byard’s time with the Titans?
Kevin Byard will one day be in the Titans Ring of Honor. It is almost impossible to put into words what he has meant to this franchise. The Titans had the worst roster in the league when they drafted Byard and a terrible culture. Byard came in and played great from day one and was a great leader. He is also one of the best guys in the community the Titans have ever had. This franchise will miss him on and off the field.
2 - How do Titans fans feel about the trade? How would you grade the deal for Tennessee’s side? Are you tired of the Titans trading with Howie Roseman?
Some Titans fans feel like they should have gotten more for Byard, but I think they did as well as they could here. It was reported over the weekend that multiple teams had inquired about Byard. My guess is that Ran Carthon did the best he could to pit those teams against each other to get the best deal. It’s hard to have much of an upper hand when teams know you are selling a guy.
I am not aware of another trade the Titans and Eagles have made....
3 - What are his strengths?
He’s a leader on and off the field. He’s available - hasn’t missed a game in his career. He’s really smart and will be in the right position to make a play.
4 - What are his weaknesses?
I would say he has lost a step at this point in his career. He seems to have missed a few plays this season that he probably would have made in years past.
5 - Anything to know about him off the field?
He’s been so fantastic in the community here. He will make the locker room better because he’s a great leader.
