The Philadelphia Eagles opened as 6.5-point road favorites against the Washington Commanders in Week 8, according to our friends over at DraftKings Sportsbook.
While the Eagles are coming off an encouraging win over the Miami Dolphins, the Commanders are coming off a dispiriting defeat.
Truth be told, Washington has been on a downward trajectory ever since taking the Birds to overtime back in Week 4. Here’s a recap of what they’ve been up to since:
- Week 5 — Blowout home loss to the Chicago Bears, who were riding a 14-game losing streak. Pretty awful.
- Week 6 — Eight-point road win over the Atlanta Falcons. The final score makes it looks like they played better than they actually did. The Commanders were outperformed in most metrics, including being outgained 402 to 193. But the Falcons turned the ball over three times to the Commanders’ zero and that was the difference.
- Week 7 — Road loss to the one-win New York Giants where the Commanders only managed to score seven points.
So, yeah, not exactly the most imposing team right now.
As previously discussed in more detail, the Commanders were unusually fortunate in their Week 4 game against the Eagles. As long as Philly can avoid more bad luck and beating themselves, they should be able to win in decisive fashion this time around.
The Eagles’ defensive front should be able to feast on a Washington offensive line that’s allowing an NFL-worst 5.7 sacks per game.
