Ahead of their Monday Night Football matchup against the Cowboys, the Eagles get more bad injury news. Starting left tackle Jordan Mailata is not at practice today after suffering a knee sprain at the end of practice on Wednesday, leaving his status for Monday’s game in Dallas in doubt.
Yikes.
If Mailata is out, 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard will have to start. Dillard hasn’t started a game since November 24, 2019, a 17-3 home loss to Seattle where Dillard played just 34 percent of the Birds’ offensive snaps. Going from Mailata to Dillard is unquestionably a downgrade.
This comes on the heels of Sunday’s loss to the 49ers where the Eagles lost Brandon Graham for the year after he tore his Achilles and Brandon Brooks had a pectoral injury that should sideline him for a good bit of time. The Eagles will now be without three of their top-tier players, all guys who play in the trenches.
It feels like the Eagles should’ve won against San Francisco, a loss that Eagles fans understandably have taken to heart. Losing BG and Brooks is huge and will certainly affect this season in a major way.
The vibes are not great for the Birds right now. It’ll take inexperienced players like Dillard, Landon Dickerson and others to step up and make this a game on Monday.
UPDATE:
Indications are #Eagles LT Jordan Mailata (knee) won’t play Monday against the #Cowboys and it’ll be Andre Dillard in his spot. Sources say Mailata’s absence shouldn’t be a long-term thing though.
