CUTS, TRADES, RUMORS, AND UPDATES
NEWEST UPDATES POSTED AT THE TOP OF THIS SECTION. Read from bottom up for chronological order.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 31
[4:06 PM ET] - The Eagles officially trimmed their roster by making 22 moves. Here’s a look at their initial 53-man roster.
[3:14 PM ET] - The Eagles are reportedly releasing S Andrew Adams. As a vested veteran, he’s not subject to waivers. Could return on the practice squad with the Eagles needing some more safety depth. Roster unofficialy down to 65 players. (Source: John Clark)
[3:08 PM ET] - The Eagles are reportedly keeping WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside on the 53-man roster. Not a surprise with Hightower and Fulgham on the way out. JJAW could still be in danger if the Eagles claim a WR. (Source: Geoff Mosher)
[2:57 PM ET] - The Eagles are reportedly waiving second-year WR John Hightower. Hightower had a good camp last year before mightily struggling and falling out of favor in the regular season. He missed a good chunk of this year’s camp due to injury. Practice squad candidate if he goes unclaimed. Roster unofficialy down to 66 players. (Source: Dave Zangaro)
[2:47 PM ET] - The Eagles are reportedly keeping rookie DT Marlon Tuipulotu on their 53-man roster. That’s a surprise. He didn’t stand out at all in practice and he was bad in the preseason games. (Source: Andrew DiCecco)
[2:10 PM ET] - The Eagles are reportedly waiving WR Travis Fulgham. Very notable considering he lead the team in receiving yards last year. But not surprising from the standpoint that he really struggled in practice and preseason games. Sounds like the Birds are only keeping five receivers. Roster unofficialy down to 67 players. (Source: Geoff Mosher)
[11:56 AM ET] - In former Eagles news, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly expected to add QB Nick Mullens to their practice squad. (Source: Mike Garafolo)
[11:21 AM ET] - The Eagles officially traded OL Matt Pryor and their 2022 seventh-round pick to Indianapolis in exchange for the Colts’ 2022 sixth-round pick. Getting anything for Pryor is a win. Roster is unofficially down to 68 players.
[8:42 AM ET] - The Eagles reportedly waived DT Raequan Williams. The 2020 UDFA signing wasn’t considered a strong contender to make the roster. Could come back on the practice squad. Roster is unofficially down to 69 players. (Source: Mike Kaye)
[7:55 AM ET] - The Eagles reportedly waived RB Jason Huntley. This is a shame. Huntley looked good early on in camp before suffering a rib injury. He flashed home run speed and he figured to be the team’s best kick returner option. One would imagine the Eagles will try to bring him back on the practice squad if he goes unclaimed. Roster is unofficially down to 70 players. (Source: Tom Pelissero)
[6:11 AM ET] - The Eagles reportedly waived CB Craig James. Not a shocker since he missed a lot of camp due to a foot injury but still notable considering he was a co-special teams captain last year. It’s said he will be on the practice squad if/when he clears waivers. Roster is unofficially down to 71 players. (Source: Tom Pelissero)
MONDAY, AUGUST 30
[9:55 PM ET] - The Eagles reportedly cut DE Matt Leo but that they intend to sign him back to the practice squad via the international pathway exemption. He will not count towards the 16-player limit just as he did not count against the 90-man roster. (Source: Mike Kaye)
[8:49 PM ET] - The Eagles reportedly released WR Andre Patton. He’s a candidate to return on the practice squad after having a quietly solid summer. Roster unofficially down to 72 players. (Source: Matt Lombardo)
[8:42 PM ET] - The Eagles reportedly waived CB Michael Jacquet III and OL Ross Pierschbacher. Not surprising. Roster unofficially down to 73 players. (Sources: Dave Zangaro and Mike Garafolo)
[2:00 PM ET] - The Eagles activated Rodney McLeod from PUP and Landon Dickerson from NFI. This confirms they’ll both be on the 53-man roster. McLeod was expected to be on but Dickerson’s status was less clear.
[6:28 AM ET] - The Eagles are reportedly fielding trade offers for their offensive linemen and their linebackers. The latter is a bit of a surprise. The Eagles have a lot of bodies at that spot but hardly boast a bevy of proven options.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 29
[10:40 AM ET] - The Eagles waived RB Elijah Holyfield, WR Marken Michel, TE Cary Angeline, DE JaQuan Bailey, and LB Rashad Smith. Roster officially down to 75 players.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 28
[11:55 AM ET] - The Eagles traded a conditional 2022 sixth-round pick in exchange for QB Gardner Minshew. In a corresponding move, the Eagles released QB Nick Mullens.
