When Doug Pederson unexpectedly popped up at Chicago Bears practice last week, there was some thought he might be returning to the NFL coaching ranks. As it turns out, though, he was merely visiting with his old friend, Matt Nagy.
Pederson’s tour around the league is continuing this week with a trip to Indianapolis. The Colts shared the following picture that might just trigger some complicated feelings.
We definitely know that Pederson and Reich are tight. The former went to bat for the latter when the Eagles reportedly wanted to fire their former offensive coordinator after just one season back in 2016. And Pederson’s backing there obviously paid off with a Super Bowl win.
As for Pederson and Wentz, well, that’s relationship is obviously a bit more complicated. Doug previously downplayed the idea that he’s on bad terms with his former starting quarterback. But it’s hard to believe they were totally simpatico given how things fell apart for the Eagles in 2020.
Then again, Wentz’s issues with the Eagles went beyond Pederson. That much was apparent when he still wanted out of Philly even after the franchise’s only Super Bowl-winning head coach was fired. It’s also possible that time has healed some wounds.
But, hey, whatever the case may be doesn’t really matter for Philly’s sake. The Eagles have moved on. Pederson has moved on. Wentz has moved on.
Still, seeing this trio together might remind you that they once played a big part in the Eagles’ most successful season in franchise history. And now, just several years later, they’re all gone.
