In an article you understandably avoided reading last week, we looked back at the Philadelphia Eagles’ most painful losses to each of their three NFC East rivals from the past 10 seasons. This week, we’re revisiting much more pleasant memories in the form of the Eagles’ most enjoyable division wins from that same decade!
I talked about these games and honorable mentions at length with RJ Ochoa on the latest NFC East Mixtape volume, which airs on both the Bleeding Green Nation and Blogging The Boys podcast feeds. Read on for some written thoughts. (Also: Can you guess RJ’s pick for the Cowboys’ best win over the Eagles?)
NEW YORK GIANTS
The game: The 2017 Eagles advance to 2-1 with a Week 3 home win, 27 to 24.
Hard to see how any other game could be the pick. Jake Elliott’s 61-yard game-winning field goal sparked a glorious Super Bowl run.
WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM
The game: The 2017 Eagles advance to 6-1 with a Week 7 win, 34 to 24.
Carson Wentz dazzled a Monday Night Football audience with some truly jaw-dropping plays. He made his MVP case as Philly swept a Washington team that had previously had their number since 2014.
DALLAS COWBOYS
The game: The 2014 Eagles advance to 9-3 with a Week 13 win on Thanksgiving, 33 to 10.
One could say there’s a damper on this memory since Philly ultimately failed to make the playoffs. But this win felt really great in the moment. The Eagles embarrassed the Cowboys on national television. Mark Sanchez blew out Tony Romo. The Eagles dominated the Cowboys in the trenches. It was a total ass-kicking. LeSean McCoy mocked Dez Bryant by throwing up the X after a touchdown run. And even though the Cowboys ended up having the last laugh in the NFC East this season, the Eagles’ win ultimately contributed to Dallas missing out on the No. 1 seed. Which was relevant with the Cowboys losing to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round (Dez dropped it).
