I’m not joking when I say that one of my favorite podcasts to record for BGN Radio each year is the #JerseyNumberAnalytics breakdown I do with Benjamin Solak. You know, the one where we go through the Philadelphia Eagles’ entire roster and analyze what a player’s number says about his outlook?

Yeah, well, that moment has arrived now that Eagles rookie and UDFA jersey numbers have been revealed. So here’s our silly and fun very serious breakdown of every player on the team ... and even five tryout players at rookie minicamp as well. [CLICK HERE] OR STREAM BELOW:

For you non-podcast people out there, you can check out my written thoughts on Eagles jersey numbers: Veteran additions | Draft picks.

And since I didn’t weigh in on the UDFA numbers, some bullet points on those:

QB Jamie Newman - 10

WR Trevon Grimes - 47

WR Jhamon Ausbon - 48

DE JaQuan Bailey - 66

OG Kayode Awosika - 72

C Harry Crider - 73

TE Jack Stoll - 85

  • I like 10 for Newman. Taking No. 11 would’ve been a real power move and one the Eagles probably wouldn’t allow. But No. 10 is a solid get.
  • Grimes and Ausbon in 47 and 48 is rough. If they were tight end converts, fine. But they’re presumably not. Definitely going to need to change if one of them makes the roster.
  • Bailey in 66 isn’t great. That’s a classic UDFA DL look.
  • No. 72 is a really good get for Awosika. Tra Thomas’s old number? More recently worn by the Eagles’ only Super Bowl-winning left tackle in franchise history, Halapoulivaati Vaitai? Better number for a tackle than a guard but still good. Stock up.
  • Crider benefited from Isaac Seumalo’s late change to No. 53. Quality number for a long shot.
  • Thought the Eagles might be keeping No. 85 open for the return of Dick Rod. Apparently not. Stoll getting that is a good look for him; it reminds me of James Casey wearing that. If he can have Casey’s NFL career, that would be a good find.

Here’s a tease of our stock up and stock down players from the podcast:

STOCK UP

DeVonta Smith

Milton Williams

Tarron Jackson

Jack Stoll

Khalil Tate

STOCK DOWN

Darius Slay

Landon Dickerson (unless he eventually changes to 69)

JaCoby Stevens

Trevon Grimes

Kenny Gainwell
