The entire 2021 NFL schedule will officially be unveiled this evening at 8:00 PM Eastern. As a teaser for that, the league announced Week 1 matchups on Wednesday morning.
We now know the Philadelphia Eagles will be opening this year’s season with a road game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, September 12. Start time is set for 1:00 PM Eastern.
This news means the Eagles will NOT be playing in London this year. Philly was one of five teams that were in play to face the Falcons at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but Atlanta obviously won’t be opening their season in the United Kingdom.
Despite struggling in 2020, the Falcons could be a tough opening matchup for the Eagles. Atlanta could be poised to rebound under a new head coach in Arthur Smith. Philly’s defense will be tasked with defending a dynamic weapon in Kyle Pitts.
The Eagles haven’t won a road game in Atlanta since December 2009, when Donovan McNabb was still the starting quarterback. We’ll see if Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni can reverse the Eagles’ fortune.
