The Eagles picking DeVonta Smith provides some much-needed juice

Pretty nice to have something to be excited about.

What a refreshing feeling it was to see the Philadelphia Eagles make a move that didn’t result in anger or indifference. For the first time in too long, the Birds gave us something to be really excited about by trading up to the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and drafting DeVonta Smith. The guy that most of us wanted ever since Philly moved down from No. 6 to No. 12.

It’s really just so nice to know the Eagles didn’t galaxy brain their pick like it was rumored they might do. They didn’t overthink it.

And while there’s obviously wisdom to building through the trenches, let’s be real. Those types of picks lack real excitement. Get out of here with that boring stuff. This Eagles team needed some juice and they got it on Thursday night. Even if the team might not be great this year, at least they have a new, exciting playmaker to care about.

Shamus Clancy and I voiced our excitement (BLG being positive?! Truly shocking!) alongside BGN community members in Locker Room recordings last night. You can listen to the replay via the BGN Radio podcast feed:
