Obligatory ‘Should the Eagles trade for Aaron Rodgers?’ blog post

You knew it was coming.

OMG, Aaron Rodgers reportedly doesn’t want to return to the Green Bay Packers! Should the Philadelphia Eagles trade for him?!

Would it be awesome to have Rodgers on the Eagles? Absolutely.

Would trading for him be worth the price in a vacuum? Probably.

Do the Eagles have the ammunition to actually make a serious offer? You’d think so given how they own No. 12 overall this year and potentially three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Does the Eagles trading for Rodgers actually make sense? Probably not. Sure, he was sensational last year, and that’s probably underselling it! 48 touchdowns to 5 interceptions last year as the league’s MVP.

But are the Eagles really in an ideal position to be mortgaging their future for a quarterback who’s set to play his age 38 season? I think it’s pretty apparent they’re not.

Not to mention I find it hard to believe that the Packers would deal Rodgers within the NFC and I doubt he would suddenly be much happier in Philly. You know, a destination where the previous franchise quarterback just forced his way out of town?

So, no. I don’t see the Eagles trading for Rodgers. It’s not so certain he’ll be moved at all. Methinks this report, along with his recent appearances hosting Jeopardy!, is all part of a ploy by him to gain more leverage in Green Bay. Whether that’s leverage for a new contract, more organizational power/influence, or all of the above.

If the Packers do end up trading Rodgers, the San Francisco 49ers could be a logical contender given his California roots. But some reports indicate the Packers rebuffed an offer from San Fran, who is set to draft a new franchise quarterback at No. 3 tonight.

The team that makes the most sense to me is the Miami Dolphins. Tua Tagovailoa might turn out to be good but that roster is ready to win now and could ultimately be undone by Tua being a bust. Miami has two first-round picks and two second-round picks this year in addition to two third-round picks in 2022. The Packers could get Rodgers, who I’m guessing wouldn’t mind the South Beach lifestyle, out the AFC.

But, again, maybe this is all moot and Rodgers returns to Green Bay. In any case, will be interesting to see what becomes of his future. Pretty confident he won’t be landing in Philly.
