NFL Draft Rumors: Dolphins considering moving down from No. 6 pick they got from the Eagles

Well, this would be something.

With talk that the Eagles are “exploring a move into the top 10” picks of the 2021 NFL Draft, did Philadelphia just find a willing trade partner? NFL Network reports the Miami Dolphins are a trade-down candidate at No. 6:

Wow! Could you imagine the Eagles picking that high?!

Of course, you can, because it’s where the Eagles were originally picking before they traded with the Dolphins down to No. 12 last month. Thus, it obviously won’t be the Eagles who are moving back up to their original spot.

So, who could it be? The New England Patriots making a big move up from No. 15? The Washington Football Team at No. 19 or the Chicago Bears at No. 20? A smaller move up for the Denver Broncos at No. 9?

One can only guess. Maybe it’s just a #smokescreen with no real substance and the Dolphins stay at No. 6.

If the pick does get traded, however, it’ll be impossible not to compare and contrast it to what the Eagles got for moving down to No. 12. Some of the criticism of Howie Roseman’s deal at the time was that Philly might’ve been able to wait and get even more value in return at a later date. The Dolphins receiving a huge haul to move down would justify such a notion.

In fairness, the Eagles did decent for themselves in the exchange. A refresher:

EAGLES RECEIVE

2021 first-round pick (No. 12 overall)
2021 fourth-round pick (No. 123 overall)
2022 first-round pick (from Miami Dolphins)

DOLPHINS RECEIVE

2021 first-round (No. 6 overall)
2021 fifth-round pick (No. 156 overall)

But opportunity cost is a very real thing and it’s only fair to wonder if the Eagles got the best deal possible. Perhaps they did!

In any case, it’ll be pretty interesting to see what becomes of No. 6 overall.
