Ranking the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft

Who’s your favorite target?

When the Eagles traded back from No. 6, it likely took them out of the conversation for drafting one of the top quarterbacks. However, this class has quite a few talented passers that the team could consider if any of them fell into proper range. Here are the 10 best quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft. PREVIOUSLY RANKED: Top 20 wide receivers | Top 20 cornerbacks | Top 10 linebackers.

1) Trevor Lawrence, Clemson

Trevor Lawrence has been QB1 since his freshman year of college. He has all the tools in terms of size, arm strength, athleticism and poise. There really aren’t many holes in his game, making him the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck and a surefire first overall pick in this class.

Pro Comparison: John Elway

2) Justin Fields, Ohio State

In any other class, Justin Fields would be my surefire top quarterback in the class. Fields is tough as hell with a big arm, phenomenal accuracy, and game-changing athleticism. Fields has a hero-ball tendency that can create big plays and get him in trouble, so tempering that will be a big part of his NFL development.

Pro Comparison: Dak Prescott

3) Zach Wilson, BYU

Zach Wilson burst onto the scene in 2020 with an outstanding season for the Cougars. Wilson isn’t the biggest quarterback, but his aggressiveness and ability to hit anywhere on the field makes him as dangerous a passer as there is in this class. Wilson is somewhat of a one year wonder and has injury history to overcome, so the team drafting him is making a gamble on his upside. If he can sustain 2020’s high level of play, he can be a star in the NFL.

Pro Comparison: Baker Mayfield

4) Trey Lance, North Dakota State

Trey Lance is a lab-built quarterback with incredible size, arm strength, and athleticism. Lance dominated the FCS not only by being more physically gifted than his competition but also by his cerebral approach to the game. He never threw an interception over 287 attempts and scored 14 times on the ground as a runner. Video game numbers. Experience is a big question mark for Lance, but there is no doubt what teams are betting on when they draft him.

Pro Comparison: Jordan Love

5) Mac Jones, Alabama

Coming in for an injured Tua Tagovailoa in 2019, Mac Jones immediately looked comfortable in the Alabama offense. He followed that up in 2020 with a damn near Heisman-worthy campaign where he and the Bama offense just ran roughshod through college football. Jones doesn’t have any remarkable physical gifts but plays on schedule and with great accuracy to run any offense. Jones might get slapped with a “system quarterback” label, but that ignores that every QB needs systems around them to work to their strength.

Pro Comparison: Kevin Kolb

BEST OF THE REST

6) Jamie Newman, Georgia

7) Kellen Mond, Texas A&M

8) Kyle Trask, Florida

9) Davis Mills, Stanford

10) Feleipe Franks, Arkansas
