Eagles, Lane Johnson reportedly working on contract restructure

And you get a restructure! And you get a restructure!

Lane Johnson and the Philadelphia Eagles are working on restructuring the veteran right tackle contract, according to a report from Derrick Gunn.

This news qualifies as another expected development. We previously noted that the Eagles can nicely clear about $6.9 million in cap space by reworking his deal.

Gunn previously reported the Eagles are reworking Graham’s deal. The Eagles also restructured Darius Slay’s contract on Friday morning and Jason Kelce announced he’s returning to Philly in 2021 under new terms.

All of this maneuvering will help the Eagles to get under the salary cap by the time the new league year begins on March 17. At the same time, pushing more money into the future lowers their spending capabilities in future years.

It’s not yet perfectly clear how much cap space the Eagles will have to work with when free agency begins. But they’re clearing enough to be able to make more than zero moves.
