The Eagles didn’t really get a whole lot out of the 2020 NFL season — and actually lost more than just games on a weekly basis — but one good thing to come out of it, was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
As the season was coming to a close, it seemed likely that the team would use their Top 10 pick on an offensive skill player, or maybe (though less likely) even for someone on the defensive side of the ball. But, as the weeks went on and the team parted ways with head coach Doug Pederson, and then went through with a trade sending Carson Wentz to Indianapolis, using that pick on a quarterback has become more likely.
With almost an entirely new (and young) coaching staff, a second-year QB in Jalen Hurts poised to take over as the starter — at least for now —, and Howie Roseman still as unpredictable as ever, only time will tell what the team ultimately does at No. 6. The team needs more top-end talent and is in a very precarious cap space situation that will limit their free agency options. I would doubt that the team gives up their coveted spot, but Roseman could pull some “Draft Day” motivation and trade back to fill the roster with even more (read: cheap) rookies.
We still aren’t getting a “typical” offseason, and don’t get the luxury of evaluating performances at the Combine, but that doesn’t lessen the value of that sixth pick. And, one thing is for sure, this Eagles’ team is going to need all the help they can get as they start rebuilding.
Who is the player you want the Eagles to draft at No. 6?
