Jalen Mills isn’t the only former Philadelphia Eagles player to join the losing side of Super Bowl LII today. Nelson Agholor is joining the Green Goblin on the New England Patriots, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Agholor’s two-year contract is worth $26 million, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Agholor certainly did a lot better for himself than when he signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Las Vegas Raiders last offseason.
A change of scenery did Agholor well last year. His 896 receiving yards marked a career-high and his eight receiving touchdowns tied his previous peak. Agholor proved to be a legitimate deep threat by logging 18.7 yards per reception. Of course, he still also had problems with catching the ball considering he finished with the NFL’s second-worst drop rate (per Pro Football Focus).
Agholor proved a tough cover for the Patriots when the Eagles beat them in the Super Bowl. The 2015 first-round pick led all Eagles wide receivers with nine receptions for 84 yards in that game. Agholor didn’t fare as well when the Eagles and Patriots played during the 2019 season and he failed to haul in a potential game-tying touchdown catch.
Nevertheless, Agholor — who was recently spotted working out with Jalen Hurts and Greg Ward — will be joining the Pats. A return to Philly won’t be in the cards, not that anyone ever really expected it to be.
