There is no shortage of rumors surrounding Carson Wentz and whether or not the Philadelphia Eagles would be able to find someone willing to trade for the quarterback — and his huge contract. Things were heating up in the days leading up to the Super Bowl with reports that the Chicago Bears are top contenders to nab the QB in a trade that could potentially bring Nick Foles back to Philly.
We reached out to several other SB Nation sites to see whether a Wentz trade is feasible for their team, and whether or not they’d even want to entertain that option.
Here’s what they had to say:
Chicago Bears

The Bears are so desperate for a starting QB, they’ll be in on every available option. And knowing Ryan Pace’s track record he’s bound to overpay for someone. If Matt Nagy is the one leading their 2021 QB search then his relationship with Doug Pederson will come into play. His old QB coach, John DeFilippo, is in Chicago too, so Nagy could pick his brain as well.
2) Do you want your team to trade for Carson Wentz?
I do not if the price has anything to do with a first round pick. Wentz was benched a year ago and his contract would be a big commitment. If the Bears could get him for a 3rd rounder then sure.
Indianapolis Colts

Yes, the Colts have been reported as among the trade suitors currently interested, so it seems logical that Indianapolis would realistically make an offer. Given the team’s need at starting quarterback, and Colts head coach Frank Reich’s familiarity with Wentz already (from having previously served as the Eagles offensive coordinator, where the two shared significant success together), there could be a natural pairing here.
2) Do you want your team to trade for Carson Wentz?
Like anything else, it depends on cost. The Colts have a glaring hole at starting quarterback right now with limited potential veteran upgrade options. Having to trade a first round pick seems too steep, but perhaps both sides could find some more middle ground on a trade. The hope is that by being reunited with Reich, Wentz can regain his 2017 form again, when he was a legitimate NFL MVP caliber candidate.
Carolina Panthers

I think if the Panthers really wanted to trade for Carson Wentz they would make an offer. Their new general manager has said he would be in on every deal, and I believe him. The Panthers almost acquired Matthew Stafford - going as far as requesting his medical info before the Rams outbid them - and are among the teams interested in trading for Deshaun Watson, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t try to work out a deal for Wentz if he is among their targets to improve at quarterback. I’m not sure they want to offer a huge package for him, but they could likely offer a few picks and Teddy Bridgewater to try and acquire him if they’re unable to land Watson or get their guy in the upcoming draft.

Denver Broncos

1) Let’s assume your team wants to acquire Carson Wentz, do you think they would realistically make an offer?
The quarterback market is hard to understand thanks in large part to the insanity of the Los Angeles Rams. Unless the trade is super cheap as far as quarterback trades go, I doubt few Broncos fans would like this trade. Carson Wentz has had a couple of decent seasons, but has only stayed healthy for two full seasons and he takes a lot of sacks. There are plenty of questions around Wentz, but if Denver is serious about getting a quarterback that isn’t an elite Top 5 type guy like Deshaun Watson then Wentz might be the best they’ll be able to do.
They are certainly going to make a move though, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Denver has a new general manager in George Paton, so it’s hard to predict what they would be willing to give up in a trade like this. If John Elway were still in charge, then I’d expect a lowball offer and for Denver to “lose out” on the Wentz trade. They did reportedly offer a first round pick and Drew Lock for Matthew Stafford, but I don’t think Wentz would be valued as highly as Stafford here. The other thing to consider is Wentz’s contract. I think when you tie that in, you might be looking at a Day 2 pick and maybe a starter-caliber player. For Denver to afford Wentz’s contract, they’d have to throw in a guy like Von Miller - who is on the last year of his deal - to make this happen. Wouldn’t that be spicy?
2) Do you want your team to trade for Carson Wentz?
No. If they don’t compete to get Watson, then I’d prefer they go for a rookie. Trade up into the Top 5 and go that route for the rookie deal. And frankly, the cost of moving up from 9 to 5 is probably going to be cheaper than a trade for Carson Wentz given how crazy teams are for veteran quarterbacks.
Washington Football Team

I don’t think Washington would realistically be in on Carson Wentz. This isn’t Andy Reid trading an obviously washed up Donovan McNabb to a desperate Bruce Allen-led front office. This deal isn’t going to happen in the division. Washington was in on Matthew Stafford, and is still solidly in the market for a veteran QB, but Carson Wentz isn’t going to happen here.
2) Do you want your team to trade for Carson Wentz?
I personally don’t want his contract, baggage, and the trade cost that comes with the deal, and I think the new power trio(Rivera, Mayhew, and Hurney) agrees with that assessment. Wentz plays too much hero ball for my taste, and has been regressing significantly. Let the Colts or the Bears take on that project.
Las Vegas Raiders

The only way I can see Wentz coming to Las Vegas is if the Raiders trade Derek Carr and then can’t get Deshaun Watson. so, it’s an unlikely path,

I’m not sure Wentz projects as a better player than Carr over the next few years. So, it really doesn’t fit.
New York Jets

Jets general manager Joe Douglas obviously has ties to the Eagles organization, but I would be surprised to see the Jets get involved in any deal involving Wentz. There are just more appealing options. The Jets figure to be in the running for Deshaun Watson. If they don’t land him, the team is still in position to take a quarterback second overall. That player would cost way less and come with less baggage. I haven’t heard any buzz about the Jets being interested in Wentz, and I’m not surprised.
2) Do you want your team to trade for Carson Wentz?
Given the contract, the alternatives, and the player’s struggles I wouldn’t want Wentz unless it was like a Brock Osweiler type trade where the Eagles sent the Jets a pick just for taking on the contract. Even then I wouldn’t be doing it for Wentz.
