Report: Eagles assistant interviewing for Packers defensive coordinator job

Another expected departure?

NFL: Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

While nothing has been officially confirmed, it doesn’t seem like Eagles run game coordinator/defensive line coach Matt Burke will be back with Philadelphia in 2021.

Reports indicate the Eagles have already hired a new defensive line coach in Tracy Rocker and a new linebackers coach in Nick Rallis. Burke could’ve logically been retained at either spot given his background with those positions.

Further, Burke is actually one of nine known candidates for the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator job. He has some previous DC experience and he’s well-spoken so it wouldn’t shock me if he gets hired.

The Eagles originally added Burke to their coaching staff in 2019 as a top assistant to Jim Schwartz. They then promoted him in 2020 to prevent him from leaving with Cory Undlin to join the Detroit Lions.

Doug Pederson was reportedly considering promoting Burke to defensive coordinator to replace Schwartz had he not been fired. But he was and the Eagles now have Jonathan Gannon instead.
