Eagles rooting guide for Week 7 games

Sunday afternoon reference material.

Now that the seventh Sunday of the 2021 NFL regular season is here, it’s time to run through a Philadelphia Eagles-focused rooting guide for all of the Week 7 games. This exercise will be especially interesting this year since the Birds have more things to care about than usual due to owning picks from the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts in the 2022 NFL Draft.

EAGLES GAME

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES at LAS VEGAS RAIDERS: The Eagles probably can’t win the NFC East with Dallas on track to run away with the division. But Philly still has a (small) chance to win a wild card spot. Gotta win on Sunday, though. Root for the Eagles, of course.

NFC EAST

CAROLINA PANTHERS at NEW YORK GIANTS: The Giants aren’t making the playoffs. Better to root for them to pick up a meaningless win here to help damage their draft positioning. Panthers loss also helps Philly’s wild card pursuit. Root for the Giants.

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM at GREEN BAY PACKERS: Washington’s probably not making the playoffs. But it doesn’t hurt to root for them to lose, which is a likely outcome anyway. Root for the Packers.

The Cowboys are on their bye.

DRAFT PICK WATCH

ATLANTA FALCONS at MIAMI DOLPHINS: The Eagles stand to benefit from the Dolphins losing as much as possible. Wonder be incredible if Philly ended up getting the No. 1 overall pick from Miami. Root for the Falcons.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: The ideal scenario here is for Carson Wentz to play 100% of the snaps in a Colts win. Need Indy to stay competitive in the AFC South so that they don’t bench Wentz. A 49ers loss also helps Philly’s wild card pursuit. Root for the Colts.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS at TENNESSEE TITANS: The Eagles should want the Titans to lose this game. Gotta keep Indy thinking they can win their division. A Titans loss here followed by a Titans win over the Colts next week would be ideal. Tennessee would be 5-3 and the Colts would be 3-5. Enough of a lead for the Titans to be in a good spot to win the AFC South but not to the point where the Colts are hopeless. Root for the Chiefs.

NEW YORK JETS at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: The Jets are a threat to pick ahead of Miami’s selection. Preferable to see them win. Root for the Jets.

DETROIT LIONS at LOS ANGELES RAMS: The Lions have a real chance of going 0-17 and therefore getting the No. 1 overall pick. Would be nice if Miami ended up sending the top spot to the Eagles instead! Plus, it would be pretty funny to see Jared Goff beat Sean McVay. Root for the Lions.

CINCINNATI BENGALS at BALTIMORE RAVENS: The Bengals winning probably hurts the Colts’ chances of making the playoffs as a wild card team. Root for the Bengals.

HOUSTON TEXANS at ARIZONA CARDINALS: The Texans are a threat to pick ahead of Miami. The consolation to the Cards winning is that it helps keep Dallas out of the No. 1 seed. Root for the Texans.

CHICAGO BEARS at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: The Giants own the Bears’ first-round pick. Thus, it’s better to see Chicago win so that pick doesn’t become more favorable. The consolation to the Bears losing is it helps Philly’s wild card pursuit. Root for da Bears.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS: In the current standings, the Saints are the bigger obstacle to a wild card spot. But the Seahawks could rebound if/when Russell Wilson gets healthy. And Seattle losing could make it more likely that he leaves them this offseason and will be available to the Eagles. But Wilson could also realistically end up with the Giants instead, which would be pretty bad. So, yeah, a lot of mixed thoughts on this game. Sean Payton’s Saints are less likable so why don’t we just root against them. Root for the Seahawks.
