The Philadelphia Eagles announced some transactional news on Monday afternoon. An overview:
- OG Sua Opeta was activated from reserve/COVID-19 to the 53-man roster.
- WR Deon Cain was signed to the practice squad.
- LB Christian Elliss was released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this on a player-by-player basis.
SUA OPETA
Opeta went on the COVID list on October 5 and missed the Eagles’ Week 5 and Week 6 games. His return gives Philly more interior offensive line depth.
Dallas Goedert remains on the COVID list for now. It’s possible he can turn in two negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be able to play in Week 7. Then again, if it took Opeta 13 days to be activated, perhaps Goedert might be in danger of missing this week’s game.
DEON CAIN
The Eagles worked out Cain about a month ago. Here’s what we wrote at the time:
Cain, 25, was a sixth-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2018 NFL Draft. He didn’t play as a rookie due to an ACL tear but he overlapped with Nick Sirianni in Indy for more than a year. He has nine career receptions for 124 yards (13.8 average) and zero touchdowns.
The Eagles had a need for an extra receiver practice body after releasing Travis Fulgham from the PS. Fulgham wasn’t exactly known for being the best practice player.
CHRISTIAN ELLISS
The Eagles originally signed Elliss to their practice squad ahead of Week 1. Then they cut him ahead of Week 5. Then they brought him back five days later. Then they cut him a week after his second return.
See below for a current look at the Eagles’ 2021 practice squad.
