The Philadelphia Eagles announced some practice squad changes on Monday afternoon. An overview:
- WR Travis Fulgham and TE Nick Eubanks were released.
- TE Noah Togiai and LB Christian Elliss were signed.
Let’s sort through this on a player-by-player basis.
TRAVIS FULGHAM
Fulgham has had such a strange NFL career. He went from being waived by two teams last summer to leading the Eagles in receiving to struggling in training camp to making the practice squad to not even being good enough to stick around on the PS. Not exactly hard to believe he isn’t the best practice player, though, given raised concerns about his drive and work ethic. It’s disappointing it came to this. We’ll see if Fulgham catches on with another club. Not a guarantee.
The Eagles still have two other practice squad receivers in John Hightower and KeeSean Johnson. That’s to go with their five receivers on the 53-man roster: DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, Jalen Reagor, Greg Ward, and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside.
NICK EUBANKS
The Eagles originally signed Eubanks in early September. He was around to provide extra depth behind Dallas Goedert, Zach Ertz, and Jack Stoll.
NOAH TOGIAI
Reunited at last!
The Eagles lost Togiai to the Indianapolis Colts on waivers last year. It was a bit of a surprise when Philly cut him because it seemed like he had done enough to make the roster. The decision to let go of him looked foolish, too, because the Eagles needlessly burned a roster spot on Alshon Jeffery instead of just putting him on PUP. Total unforced error.
Togiai didn’t play much with the Colts, logging just 72 snaps in four games played before being placed on injured reserve. Togiai got hurt again in Colts training camp this summer and was waived/injured ahead of final roster cuts.
Now presumably healthy, Togiai replaces Eubanks in giving the Eagles more depth at tight end. With Tyree Jackson eventually set to be activated from injured reserve (before the end of this month?), the Eagles will have five tight ends on the practice field.
That is, unless they move Ertz or Goedert before the NFL trade deadline on November 2. Can’t rule it out.
CHRISTIAN ELLISS
The Eagles recently waived Elliss in order to restore Le’Raven Clark to the practice squad. Now Elliss is back.
