Going through the airport, two different Eagles fans came over asking if Eagles were trying to get in Deshaun Watson trade. Nope, not in the in the mix this time. I couldn’t tell if they were pissed or happy bc of the colorful words— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) September 30, 2021
For further clarity, Glazer followed up with these tweets as well:
Nope, not anymore. They used to be but not at this point https://t.co/R67qcoKzV7— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) October 1, 2021
It was previously reported that Watson would not waive his no-trade clause to come to Philly. It’s unclear if Watson’s disinterest in the Eagles has caused the team to stop pursuing him. Perhaps it’s just a factor in an equation that also includes the sexual assault allegations against Watson.
In any case, it doesn’t look like the Eagles will be acquiring Watson ahead of the 2021 NFL trade deadline at 4:00 PM Eastern on Tuesday, November 2. It’s still worth monitoring what happens to him since, if he goes to Miami, that development could impact the Dolphins’ 2022 first-round pick that’s owed to Philly.
It’s also possible that the Eagles’ interest in Watson rekindles down the road, should his legal situation be resolved. Or maybe they’ve moved on for good.
One thing we do know is that as long as the Eagles continue to lack a definitive franchise quarterback, they’ll continue to look for an answer at that spot.
