Eagles-Football Team Final Injury Report: Miles Sanders among 9 players ruled out

Week 17 game status updates.

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their third and final official injury report on Friday in advance of their meaningless Week 17 game against the Washington Football Team.

A whopping NINE players were ruled out: Miles Sanders, Fletcher Cox, Dallas Goedert, Derek Barnett, Jordan Mailata, DeSean Jackson, Shaun Bradley, Duke Riley, and Richard Rodgers.

Sanders popped up on Thursday’s injury report with a knee issue. He did not practice on Friday. Methinks he’d be able to play if this game actually had meaning. Kudos to the Eagles for sitting him out. Sanders’ absence leaves Philly with Boston Scott, Corey Clement, and Jason Huntley at running back. It’d be nice to see what Huntley can do with some touches after mostly being a healthy scratch this year.

Obviously no reason to risk Cox playing. The Eagles will have Javon Hargrave, Malik Jackson, T.Y. McGill, and Raequan Wiliams available at defensive tackle.

Goedert and Rodgers both being out leaves the Eagles with Zach Ertz, Caleb Wilson, and Jason Croom (promoted from the practice squad) at tight end. Hopefully Ertz doesn’t get hurt in this game for both his own sake and the Eagles’ ability to trade him this offseason.

Barnett missing this game is important since his 2021 fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only Would’ve been sub-optimal for the Eagles if he got seriously hurt on Sunday and they were automatically tied to him for next season.

There would’ve been value in Mailata playing if he was healthy enough but he’s not far along enough in the concussion protocol. Looks like the Eagles will be going with Brett Toth, who is wildly inexperienced as a pass blocker, at left tackle. Going up against Chase Young in his first NFL start will, uh, not be easy. Playing Toth and Matt Pryor as the starting tackles gives the Eagles a good chance to lose this game and not ruin their position in the 2021 NFL Draft. Poor Jalen Hurts.

Jackson has probably played his last down for the Eagles. The joy of his 81-yard touchdown last week was incredibly short-lived.

Bradley and Riley were both placed on injured reserve. Their absences leave the Eagles with Alex Singleton, T.J. Edwards, Joe Bachie, and Rashad Smith (promoted from the practice squad) at linebacker. The team also might activate Davion Taylor from injured reserve.

One player was ruled QUESTIONABLE: Michael Jacquet.

Jacquet was limited the past two days after sitting out on Wednesday. Hopefully he can play because he can surely help the Eagles get this loss. The only other healthy cornerbacks on the roster are Darius Slay, Nickell Robey-Coleman, and ... that’s it. The Eagles can’t count on Jalen Mills playing corner because he was placed on the COVID list. Undrafted rookie safeties Grayland Arnold and Elijah Riley have corner experience. The team could look to promote Jameson Houston and/or Lavert Hill and/or Blake Countess from the practice squad.

Quez Watkins is set to play despite missing practice on Wednesday and being limited on Thursday. The rookie wide receiver was full on Friday. Good to see.

Alshon Jeffery missed Friday’s practice due to personal reasons.
