Sidney Jones joins the Jaguars’ practice squad

Won’t be returning to Philly.

NFL: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Eagles 2017 second-round pick Sidney Jones cleared waivers but he won’t be heading back to Philadelphia.

Instead, Jones is signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad, according to a report from ESPN’s Tim McManus.

The Jags figure to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season but that actually makes Jacksonville a good landing spot for him. Jones will have more of an opportunity to prove himself on a rebuilding team.

This summer has really been a “Life comes at you fast” lesson for Jones and his supporters. Look at this BGN poll from back in June:

And this one from even further back in March:

Some really wanted to buy in to Jones after he made those big plays down the stretch in 2019. But it was all for naught as he barely practiced in training camp and struggled when he was healthy enough to suit up.

Jones having to settle for signing with the Jags’ practice squad proves that he wasn’t a hot commodity after the Eagles let him go. Big fall from grace for a former second-round pick. For his sake, hopefully he can stay healthy and turn his career around.
