UPDATE: Multiple reports indicate Devonta Freeman is signing with the Giants.
The Philadelphia Eagles brought veteran free agent running back Devonta Freeman in for a visit over the weekend but he left town without a contract. He’s now headed to meet with the New York Giants, according to NFL Network.
The Giants suddenly find themselves in need of running back help with Saquon Barkley feared to have suffered an ACL tear during New York’s Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears. Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman are the only other running backs on their roster. Freeman’s clearly hasn’t been able to find the right role and contract to this point but Barkley’s injury could open the door for him with the G-Men.
And so one would think the Giants are more likely to sign Freeman than the Eagles are at this point. The running back position is hardly the Eagles’ biggest concern right now anyway with Miles Sanders playing well (aside from a fumble) in his return and Boston Scott looking like a capable complementary No. 2.
If the Giants sign Freeman, the Eagles will see him when these two teams play in Week 7 and Week 10.
