Who’s in and who’s out.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the inactives list for their 2020 NFL Week 1 game against the Washington Football Team.

The following seven Eagles players have been ruled INACTIVE: Lane Johnson, Miles Sanders, Derek Barnett, Javon Hargrave, Alshon Jeffery, Jalen Hurts, and Casey Toohill.

The big news is that Lane Johnson is INACTIVE. The Eagles are seriously playing their first game without projected starters at left tackle (Andre Dillard), right guard (Brandon Brooks), and now right tackle. Cool stuff! The Eagles could be going with Nate Herbig, who’s never started before, at right guard and Matt Pryor at right tackle. Or Pryor at right guard and rookie Jack Driscoll at right tackle. Pretty concerning going against Washington’s deep defensive line. UPDATE: The Eagles are going with Driscoll at right tackle and Herbig at right guard. Unexpected combo of two players making their first NFL starts. Yikes!

Sanders, Barnett, Hargrave, and Jeffery were all ruled out heading into Sunday’s game. No surprises there.

Boston Scott and Corey Clement figure to split running back touches with Sanders out. Scott could receive the majority of them but don’t sleep on Clement having a significant role. It’s hard to imagine new addition Jason Huntley playing much on offense after only joining the team several days ago.

Barnett’s absence means Josh Sweat and Vinny Curry will both see increased playing time.

The Eagles should be able to handle Hargrave being out since they still have Fletcher Cox, Malik Jackson, and Hassan Ridgeway. They also called up veteran T.Y. McGill to be the fourth defensive tackle.

With Jeffery out, the Eagles have six active receivers: DeSean Jackson, Jalen Reagor (as expected), Greg Ward, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, and John Hightower. Reagor and JJAW might split snaps at X while Jackson starts at Z and Ward lines up in the slot.

Jalen Hurts, the No. 53 overall pick from the 2020 NFL Draft, is a healthy scratch. So the Eagles clearly won’t be using him in any kind of gimmick role. Nate Sudfeld is the backup quarterback behind Carson Wentz.

Rookie defensive end Casey Toohill is also a healthy scratch despite clearly outperforming Genard Avery in training camp.
