NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

As of the time I’m typing this sentence, Philadelphia Eagles versus Washington Football Team kickoff is just 26 hours away! Let’s gauge the confidence level of both fan bases while we wait.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

SB Nation Reacts data has the Eagles with an 80% confidence rating heading into Week 1. Offensive line issues are preventing that figure from being closer to 100%. But there’s still a reason the Eagles are 5.5 favorites to beat the Football Team. The Birds have the better quarterback and overall roster.

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

Despite being outmatched on paper, Football Team fans are equally confident heading into Week 1. Washington also has an 80% confidence rating. Our enemies over at Hogs Haven are envisioning an upset at FedEx Field. The following comes from front page writer Bill-in-Bangkok:

The Washington defensive front should have the ability to give a dinged up and aging Eagles offensive line (Jason Peters is 38; Matt Pryor has 142 career offensive snaps; Lane Johnson was limited in practice this week) real problems for four quarters of football, making Carson Wentz perfectly miserable all afternoon. If Scott Turner has a few offensive tricks up his sleeve, the Football Team could walk out of FedEx Sunday night with a 1-0-0 record both overall and in the division, while the Philadelphia Eagles take a long bus ride home wondering what went wrong. While I’m not expecting a great season — or even a very good one — I’m picking a young Ron Rivera-inspired team to shock the NFL by picking up the W at home against the defending division champs this Sunday.

Another Hogs Haven front page writer who goes by KyleSmithforGM wrote the following:

“The Eagles, and NFL community, in general, will leave this game shell-shocked.”

Some might say these Football Team fans are feeling ... cocky.

Elsewhere in the NFC East, you might be surprised to see that the team with the lowest confidence rating (70%) is ... the Dallas Cowboys!

Perhaps fans are concerned that all the offseason hype is going to backfire. Probably nothing to worry about, though, it’s not like we’ve ever seen that happen before.

Ready for another surprise in this division? The New York Giants somehow have THE highest confidence rating (83%) despite being an awful team for the past forever. People are really drinking that Joe Judge kool-aid, I guess.

It’ll be interesting to check back in on these numbers after Week 1.
