Timmy Jernigan reportedly expected to sign with Jaguars

Former Eagles DT finds a new NFL home.

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan is expected to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to reports from NFL Network.

It was reported back in April that Jernigan signed with the Houston Texans but that deal strangely fell through in early June before the signing ever became official. As a result, the Eagles lost out on an opportunity to recoup a sixth-round compensatory pick in the 2021 NFL Draft for letting Jernigan walk in free agency. Jernigan signing with the Jags doesn’t impact the Eagles’ comp pick formula since the deadline for that passed long ago in late April. Graphic via Over The Cap:

Here’s wishing Jernigan well in Jacksonville. Big Money Tim was a contributor to the Eagles’ Super Bowl success in 2017. It’s too bad injuries limited him to only playing 15.5% of Philly’s defensive snaps over the past two years.

The Eagles’ current defensive tackle outlook is pretty promising. Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, and Malik Jackson account for three of the NFL’s top 20 interior defensive line contracts. That trio has the potential to generate a lot of disruption. The Eagles should also have quality depth with Hassan Ridgeway, Anthony Rush, and Raequan William battling for roster spots.
