The next phase of the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2020 training camp schedule is set to begin today.
The strength and conditioning ramp up period is over as the team will now hit the NovaCare Complex practice fields for unpadded practices over the next four days. These non-contact sessions will essentially serve as a condensed version of the OTA practices the Eagles would normally go through in May and June.
Unlike standard OTAs, however, reporters are not permitted to attend these practices. So, no practice notes just yet.
But the good news is that should be changing next week when the Eagles finally begin their actual padded practices starting Monday, August 17! I look forward to getting a glimpse of the upcoming 2020 team and sharing what I observe with you right here on BGN.
We’re almost there, friends. Just hang in a little bit longer.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12
Unpadded practices, where players will wear shells and helmets.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 13
Unpadded practices, where players will wear shells and helmets.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 14
Unpadded practices, where players will wear shells and helmets.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 15
Unpadded practices, where players will wear shells and helmets.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 16
Day off.
Roster must be down to 80 even if using a split squad setup.
MONDAY, AUGUST 17 (AND BEYOND)
Padded practices begin — teams will be allowed 14 in total but not more than three days in a row.
My current understanding is this is when reporters (myself included) will be able to start watching the practices and writing up observations. Remember: Preseason games have officially been cancelled. So ... practice notes will be more valuable than ever.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
Rosters must be cut down from 80 to 53 before 4:00 PM Eastern.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
Teams can begin to build their 16-player practice squads after the waiver period ends. Six of those players can have an unlimited number of accrued seasons, meaning eligibility is less limited than ever.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 through SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12
Week 1 practices and preparation.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13
Week 1 — Eagles at Washington Football Team in Landover, Maryland.
