The Philadelphia Eagles now have two out of their 10 picks from the 2020 NFL Draft under contract. The team officially announced they’ve signed rookie wide receiver Quez Watkins.
The Eagles usually wrap up their draft pick signings when rookie minicamp takes place at the NovaCare Complex in May — or at least well before training camp starts — but this offseason has obviously been anything but usual. NFL teams haven’t been as quick to sign their rookies as the coronavirus pandemic has prevented players from visiting team facilities in person.
The process of signing picks is typically pretty simple since the Collective Bargaining Agreement dictates slotted rookie contracts based on draft position. Here’s a look at the projected details of Watkins’ deal, via Over The Cap:

Watkins isn’t necessarily a lock to make the Eagles’ 53-man roster but the 21-year-old does have an opportunity to compete for a spot. That is, assuming there’s an actual training camp and/or preseason for him to participate in. The lack of a real offseason could work against Watkins’ chances and make it more likely that he’s kept around on the practice squad.
The Eagles previously signed Prince Tega Wanogho to a rookie contract back in mid-May. The remaining eight unsigned rookies will need to sign their deals in order to participate in training camp.
