“Jeff Garcia, baby, he’s our baby! He’s it, baby!”
With a simple tweet from Philly Twitter star Jeff McDevitt before the 2017 season, Eagles superfan Larry Poffer came back into our lives with a rallying cry for Jeff Garcia:
when i have precisely one cold one and start thinking about the upcoming nfl season pic.twitter.com/aBG8Ep8rlY

It was poetic. Eagles fans’ fervor for one backup quarterback leading the Birds to the playoffs was a precursor to Nick Foles’ magical run to the Super Bowl more than 10 years later.
Garcia is forever our baby. To honor him, a the 2006 Eagles Monday Night Football game against the Carolina Panthers is the official choice for the BGN Quarantine Watch Party this week! On Friday May 15 at 7:00 p.m. EST, we’re going to watch Garcia lead the Birds to a season-saving win in prime time.
Here’s what I wrote about the game in this week’s watch party poll article:
2006 Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers
Following Donovan McNabb’s season-ending ACL and meniscus tears, the Eagles’ season looked finished too. That’s before Jeff Garcia, our baby, guided the Birds to an unlikely playoff run. After losing his first start in Indianapolis, Garcia rebounded on Monday Night Football to kick off a five-game win streak to finish the year in this 27-24 victory.
Garcia threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns during this fourth quarter comeback win, as the Birds trailed 24-17 heading into the final chunk of the game. Legendary Eagle Brian Dawkins recorded an interception in the game too, so I know we’d all be amped to see a great BDawk moment.
As a reminder, we’re going to be using the Watch2Gether site so that we can all simultaneously view the game while having a running text chat.
Simply use the link [here] to join our watch room. Same as last time, feel free to hop in around 6:30 p.m. so we can shoot the breeze before promptly kicking things off at 7:00 p.m.
We’ll be using the #BGNOurBaby hashtag so we can all follow along together too.
We may be stuck inside, but there’s nothing like reliving some great Eagles memories. Can’t wait to crack open a cold one and watch with you all on Friday!
