Last year on The QB Scho Show we were pounding the table for Washington State’s Gardner Minshew and Boise State’s Brett Rypien as day 3 quarterback targets for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Minshew would go 6-6 as a starter with Nick Foles being injured and underwhelming in Jacksonville. Rypien... well, he’s still on the Denver Broncos roster. That’s more than what can be said for Eagles selection Clayton Thorson from Northwestern.

This year, we’re all aboard the Cole McDonald train..

It’s in part due to PFF’s comparison to Nate Sudfeld that makes me think the Eagles would be interested in the Hawai’i product. Indeed, they have some similar traits. McDonald has also said the Eagles have been heavily recruiting him throughout the process.

I’ll make it completely clear that I’m irrationally biased when it comes to McDonald. He’s got the size, the arm, and is tougher than a two-dollar steak. One example of that toughness is when he played 2018 while dealing with an MCL sprain and internal bleeding that was draining into his scrotum. Bet you weren’t prepared for that last part, but it’s legit.

Before the whole internal bleeding situation, McDonald had a run of incredibly impressive film in 2018. He was unable to capitalize upon that in 2019, throwing for 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in the first game and getting benched, prompting me to create this video for my “QB Only”...

McDonald would eventually settle down and put together another solid run towards the end of the season, including a particularly gutsy throw on 3rd & 1 in the bowl game against BYU that highlights his aggressive nature. He followed that play up with another strike that proved to be the game winner.

In summation, McDonald is fearless, flawed, exciting and scary and I’d literally die for him.

We dive more into McDonald and other prospects like Washington State’s Anthony Gordon and Florida International’s James Morgan on The QB Scho Show #57!
