2020 NFL Mock Draft: Miami Dolphins take running back

With the 26th overall pick in the 2020 Bleeding Green Nation community mock draft, Miami Dolphins GM SemperFilly selects ...

NCAA Football: Georgia at South Carolina Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia

The Miami Dolphins enter this mock draft with needs at nearly every position. With critical needs for OT, QB, Edge, IOL, CB, RB, LB, Safety, DL, TE.

Dolphins picks thus far in this mock: WR CeeDee Lamb, QB Justin Herbert.

Conclusion: Dolphins shored up two critical positions to lock up their offense for years to come, need + best player available brings us to RB D’Andre Swift.

RB Depth Chart post draft: D’Andre Swift, Jordan Howard, Patrick Liard, Kalen Ballage

Pick Analysis: RB is something the front office halfheartedly reinforced, after trading Kenyan Drake to the Cardinals for a 6th round pick (possibly 5th) with the signing of Jordan Howard, who quite frankly is best relegated to goal line RB. With an undersized Patrick Laird and an underperforming Kalen Ballage, the addition of many believe to be the best RB in the draft immediately upgrades the Miami Dolphins offense with the top WR top 2 QB and the top RB. Dolphin fans would be drooling for this scenario to play out.

Player Analysis Strengths: He’s from Philly… nuff said… just kidding … Swift is a bit undersized at 5’ 8” 212 lbs but he ran a 4.48 and his tape shows the speed. A tenacious runner that runs with a strong base and good leverage, tough runner that tries to get YAC. What stands out most are his similarities to Patrick Liard ... just kidding… well as far the ability to catch every pass thrown into his radius and his complex route tree. Swift can line up in spread offense where he would make his biggest impact. Dolphins fans will love his tape due to the similar size/build and playing style as Frank Gore. He possesses the elusive traits making him an ideal inside outside zone runner. He can step in right away and be the lightening to Howard/Ballage’s thunder. Best trait: Feet/Pass Catching Best game: Vanderbilt 2019: 16 carries 147 yards 9.2 yards per carry

Highlights:

Player Analysis Weaknesses: Again he is undersized and that will work against him since runs like he is a bigger back…ball security has been an issue…is rated as “quicker than fast…”. Doesn’t move piles like his above Gore comparison…and his pass protection needs work (as with most rookies). Worst trait: Decision-making worst game: Florida 25 carries…86 yards 3.4 yards per carry

NFL Player comp: Best Case Scenario: Dalvin Cook

Worse Case Scenario: Duke Johnson
