Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson

I think it will be too hard for the Giants to pass on Isaiah Simmons at pick number four. Simmons was the leader of Clemson’s defense in 2019, which ranked third in the country while allowing 13.5 points per game. On the other hand, the New York Giants defense allowed 26.2 points per game in 2019. The Giants were ranked 20th in rushing defense and 28th in passing defense yardage-wise last year. In the 2018 and 2019 NFL drafts, the Giants upgraded their offense with their earliest picks by selecting running back Saquon Barkley second overall and quarterback Daniel Jones sixth overall, but now it’s time for the Giants to start focusing on their defense if they want to become competitive. Isaiah Simmons would be a major upgrade for this Giants defense.

Isaiah Simmons is a freakish athlete who can play a variety of positions on defense. The 238-pound linebacker ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at the combine! In 2019, Simmons recorded 107 tackles, including 16 tackles for loss, as well as eight sacks and three interceptions. Simmons has great coverage and tackling skills as well as elite speed for a linebacker. His skills combined with his work ethic have led to production on the football field during his college career, and if they’re smart, the Giants front office should have no doubt that that’s the way it will be for years to come. He would immediately become the leader of the Giants ‘defense and elevate the game of the players around him with the intensity that he showed while playing for Clemson.

While the Giants may consider addressing their need for an offensive tackle in the draft, Isaiah Simmons is the kind of player who has the potential to transform the New York Giants and be the face of the franchise for years to come, so they should not pass on the opportunity to draft Simmons with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
