Part 1

The early to mid 2000s saw many great battles between the Favre led Packers and the McNabb led Eagles and they almost all seemingly went the Eagles way. There's a lot of memorable ones like the 2003 NFC Divisional matchup that will forever be known as the 'Miracle of 4th and 26'. Earlier that season however, these two teams squared off in Lambeau field. With the Eagles sitting at 5-3 and trailing the 7-2 Cowboys for first place in the division a win was imperative for Philadelphia to not lose ground. The Packers came in at 4-4 needing to stay above water as they trailed the 6-2 Vikings for first place in the division.

November 10th, 2003: Philadelphia Eagles 17, Green Bay Packers 14

It was a sloppy, rainy night in Lambeau that didn't see much scoring throughout the entire contest until the fourth quarter. We pick up action in the final minute of the second quarter when Brett Favre hit Ahman Green for a 24 yard touchdown to give the Packers a 7-0 lead that would stand going into halftime. Throughout the first half the Eagles offense was utterly stifled, the Eagles only reached Green Bay territory twice and a missed 47 yard field goal by David Akers would lead to the Green Bay touchdown.

Immediately in the second half the Eagles took their first possession and hit a field goal. The Packers failed to respond as Ryan Longwell missed a 45 yard field goal on the ensuing drive, there wouldn't be any more scoring until about midway through the fourth quarter on a QB sneak by Donovan McNabb to put the Eagles up 10-7 with 9:30 to go in the game. However, the Packers stormed back on the next drive with a 45 yard touchdown run by Green to make it a 14-10 Packers lead. The Eagles took the next drive deep into Packers territory but were stopped on 4th and 5 with 4:32 left in the game seemingly ending all hope in a win for the birds.

After the Packers did nothing on their next drive the Eagles had 2:43 to go 65 yards to try and win the game. Thanks to Duce Staley contributing 29 yards from scrimmage on the drive the Eagles were able to cruise down the field in terrible weather to set up the go ahead touchdown with just 27 seconds left as McNabb hit receiver Todd Pinkston in the lower corner of the end zone for a six yard touchdown pass giving them a three point lead and one of the most exciting moments thus far in 2003.

With Brett Favre stunned in disbelief the Packers were able to get to the Philadelphia 42 and looked to be in prime position to get a chance to tie the game on the next drive, but on 2nd and 2 with eight seconds left Favre lost his grip on the football as he was gearing to throw the ball, the ball went sideways and Darwin Walker was the first to hop on it resulting in a turnover and giving the Eagles the ball with one second left. A quick McNabb kneel ended the game and gave Philadelphia a truly exciting win.

Interesting Game Notes:

-The Eagles improved to 6-3 with the win, it was their fourth win in a row and they would end up winning nine in a row. The Eagles would eventually overtake the Cowboys as they collapsed midway through November

-The Packers fell to 4-5 but thanks to an even greater Minnesota collapse that featured a losses to three 4-12 teams, the Packers would ultimately win the division

-These two teams met in the playoffs and the Eagles won 20-17 in overtime

-Andy Reid would go 5-2 against Brett Favre in his coaching career. The final time Brett Favre ever played against Philadelphia was opening day in 2007

-This would be the last win for the Eagles in Green Bay for the next 10 years
