There’s a chance the Eagles could bring Kelly Green back in 2021

Some bad news and some good news for you Kelly Green lovers out there.

The bad news is that the Philadelphia Eagles apparently won’t be wearing their throwback uniforms this season. Last year at this time Jeffrey Lurie said he was “hopeful” the league would change their helmet rule in 2020 but apparently that won’t be the case. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Pro Football Talk that “there will be no change for the 2020 season” on the helmet front.

The good news is that McCarthy left the door for future change by saying: “There are ongoing discussions for a potential change for the 2021 season, but no decisions have been made.”

This conversation about throwback uniforms was recently brought the forefront by Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians, who said the following in an interview on The Dan Patrick Show.

“I think once the helmet rule changes next year, we might have some creamsicles [jerseys] and some throwbacks [...]”

Sounds like Arians may have spilled the beans on a change that the NFL isn’t ready to officially confirm just yet. Or maybe it’s just more false hope!

The Eagles have been trying to bring Kelly Green back ever since they originally proposed a helmet rule change during the 2017 NFL owners meetings. Under current NFL rules, the Eagles are only permitted to wear their standard midnight green helmet with Kelly Green jerseys, which would obviously look dumb.

The Eagles haven’t worn their Kelly Green jerseys since Week 1 of the 2010 NFL season. Maybe they’ll finally be back in 2021?
