The Philadelphia Eagles did a thing! It took an entire eight hours or so into the new league year before the rumblings started, but we were finally awarded for our patience with a big splash trade for Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay.
As noted on this here website, the Eagles shipped off a third and fifth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft for the 29-year old cornerback, a deal which also came with a new contract for Slay worth up to $50M that would keep Slay in Philadelphia through 2023.
Darius Slay gave up his highest QB Rating (86.9) since '16. DET had the 29th ranked pressure rate (per PFF). Slay quite often travels w/WR1.

I don't think Slay is near cooked & I don't care about his age (29). He's got plenty of top-tier football left (graphics via @KlipDraw) - pic.twitter.com/yi5K67e9IH
I’m a fan of the move to upgrade the cornerback group despite disappointment over losing out in the Byron Jones sweepstakes, and there are still holes to fill in the secondary so this shouldn’t be the last we hear of the Eagles when it comes to adding to their defensive backfield.
To discuss the move, I talked with Jimmy Kempski, Brandon Lee Gowton, and Benjamin Solak for a special BGN Radio #111!
Other topics from the show include:
- Thoughts on the Javon Hargrave signing
- Trade rumors surrounding the Eagles and Yannick Ngakoue
- Our top free agent to target moving forward
