Well, the Eagles finally made a move to add talent and depth to the cornerback position: Darius Slay is coming to Philadelphia!
The team gave up two draft picks and also made Slay the highest paid cornerback in the league with a three-year deal. There are a lot of opinions out there about the trade, but there’s no arguing his big play ability, despite the concern with his age and production from last season.
All 19 CAREER INTs from new @eagles CB Darius Slay!

Sorry my guys, he is not the 83rd best CB. That is a lie that some will believe. #WatchTheTape he play man to man every down, even when he shouldn’t, he manned up. Tough duty, only 1% of the works can do. https://t.co/Uk4Uh4CPVb

Media, analysts and others
New Eagles CB Darius Slay is one of just two corners named to the last three Pro Bowls. He has 82 pass breakups since 2015, more than any other player in the NFL. He's a standout man-to-man coverage player.

Philly lands the impact corner it has long coveted.
The Eagles have acquired CB Darius Slay from the Lions to shore up their secondary.

Slay ranks in the top 5 among defensive backs in several coverage metrics when targeted as the nearest defender since 2016, while the Eagles allowed a league-high 11 deep TD last season. https://t.co/wt87LnZvzD pic.twitter.com/KoESBrdR9O
In 2019, Darius Slay shadowed against 4 teams (5 total games) the Eagles will see in 2020. Here is how he fared against his primary assignment

Cowboys WR Amari Cooper and Eagles CB Darius Slay have faced off twice in the NFL.
— Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) March 19, 2020
2015: Slay shadowed Cooper on 20 of his 27 routes. Cooper had 0 catches on 3 targets in the game.
2019: Slay shadowed on 26 of his 30 routes. Cooper posted an 8-3-38-0 receiving line.
Darius Slay is a better playmaking cornerback than Byron Jones. I don't know if he's necessarily leaps and bounds better than Jones, but I think he was worth the gamble of a three-year deal (essentially two-year deal) since the #Eagles kept their vital 2nd-round pick.

Slay, 29, is a three-time Pro Bowler. He has 19 career INTs, including a league-high 8 INTs in 2017. Jim Schwartz drafted Slay in 2013.
— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) March 19, 2020
The contract makes Slay the highest-paid CB in average per-year salary in the NFL.

Before Carson Wentz’s rookie year, I vowed not to shave until his first INT.
