There’s buzz about Nelson Agholor potentially signing with the Colts

Nelson Agholor is set to be an unrestricted free agent on March 18 and it’s safe to say the Eagles’ 2015 first-round pick won’t be returning to Philadelphia. Agholor was an abject disaster on the field in 2019 and it’s in the best interest of both him and the team to move on.

So, where might Agholor end up? There’s some early buzz that the 26-year-old could sign with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Athletic’s Stephen Holder referred to Agholor as “a notable free agent who I hear could be wearing a horse shoe soon.” Holder adds that Agholor is “one name we’ve already heard linked to Indianapolis” and to “be sure to keep an eye on Agholor in the coming weeks.”

It’s not difficult to envision Agholor signing with Indy. He’d be reunited with former Eagles offensive coordinator and current Colts head coach Frank Reich there. The Colts also hired former Eagles wide receiver Mike Groh at the same position on Reich’s staff. Agholor’s best season obviously came when Groh was his receivers coach in 2017.

It’ll be interesting to see what Agholor’s market is like. He undoubtedly made significant contributions to the Eagles’ Super Bowl success but there have been many more lows than highs during his NFL career.

Meanwhile, the Eagles will be looking for a new starting slot wide receiver next season. Will that be Greg Ward? A free agent signing? Someone the Eagles add in the 2020 NFL Draft? To be determined, but we do know it won’t be Agholor. And that’s for the best.
