Remember that report from last week about how DeSean Jackson — whom you may have forgotten was on the team — was still hoping to play this season?
Well, the Philadelphia Eagles officially activated Jackson’s 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve on Monday afternoon.
We previously wrote some thoughts about Jackson potentially coming back:
- It’s hard to care much about a Jackson return when the season is likely lost. Don’t want to see Jackson returning and taking snaps away from Jalen Reagor / Quez Watkins / Travis Fulgham.
- It’s hard to care much about a Jackson return when the 34-year-old is likely to get hurt again if/when he’s back on the field.
- With those things said, there is part of me that would like to see Jalen Hurts get to play with a healthy Jackson. Interested to see how Hurts does with that potential deep ball connection.
- Jackson has played in just 10.5% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps since Howie Roseman traded for him and gave him a three-year contract worth $27 million. Seems bad.
It’s unclear if Jackson will be able to return for Week 16. The Eagles might be officially eliminated from playoff contention by this week’s 4:25 kickoff if the Washington Football Team beats the Carolina Panthers in a 1:00 PM start. Or the Eagles might lose ahead of Jackson returning for a meaningless game in Week 17, when there will really be no reason to play him.
But if the Eagles can stay alive in the playoff picture, maybe Jackson can give the team a boost. We’ll see.
In other news, the Eagles signed offensive tackle Casey Tucker to their practice squad. This marks Tucker’s third different stint with Philly. They had a need for more offensive line depth after losing Jack Driscoll to injured reserve last week.
See below for a current look at the Eagles’ 2020 practice squad.
