Eagles rooting guide for Week 12 games

Sunday reference material.

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The twelfth Sunday of the 2020 NFL regular season is here and that means it’s time to run through a Philadelphia Eagles-focused rooting guide for all of the Week 12 games.

I can’t bring myself to write about rooting for the Eagles to make the playoffs at this point. Losing games is the best thing for this team’s long-term outlook. It’s time to embrace the tank and cheer for draft positioning.

Current 2021 NFL Draft order via Tankathon:

TANKING GUIDE

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: The Eagles falling to 3-7-1 potentially moves them into position for a top five pick. Losing also confirms that Jeffrey Lurie needs to make much-needed major changes. Root for the Seahawks.

MIAMI DOLPHINS at NEW YORK JETS: For the Eagles to pass the Jets in the draft order, Philly has to lose out and NYJ has to at least go 4-2 in their final six games. That’s not happening. Might as well root for the Jets to lose to maintain their No. 1 pick and make sure Dallas or NYG doesn’t get it. Root for the Dolphins.

ARIZONA CARDINALS at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: With the Eagles only half a game up on New England in the tank standings, better to see the Pats win here. Root for the Patriots.

CAROLINA PANTHERS at MINNESOTA VIKINGS: Carolina is a closer to passing the Eagles than Minnesota. Root for the Panthers.

CLEVELAND BROWNS at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: If the Jags can pull off an unlikely upset this week, they’d need to win just two more games for the Eagles to potentially pass them. Not likely but we’ll root for it to happen anyway. Root for the Jaguars.

TENNESSEE TITANS at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: Not relevant in the tank standings but if the Eagles want to have the option of trading Carson Wentz, it’s best to see Philip Rivers struggle so that Indy looks for a replacement. Frank Reich could coming calling about Wentz. Root for the Titans.

NEW YORK GIANTS at CINCINNATI BENGALS: Good result for the Eagles either way. An Eagles loss combined with a Bengals win actually moves Philly ahead of Cincy in the draft order. A Giants win moves Philly ahead of NYG and helps to prevent the Birds from winning the NFC East. For the sake of getting as high of a pick as possible, it’s best for the Bengals to win. Root for the Bengals.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS at BUFFALO BILLS: Need the Bolts to pull off an upset and fall behind Philly in the draft order. Root for the Chargers.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS at ATLANTA FALCONS: Need the Falcons to pull off an upset and fall behind Philly in the draft order. Root for the Falcons.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at LOS ANGELES RAMS: With the 49ers only half a game behind the Eagles and more losses likely on the way, best to see them pull off an upset here. Root for the 49ers.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS at DENVER BRONCOS: With the Broncos only half a game behind the Eagles and more losses likely on the way, best to see them pull off an upset here. They’ll just have to do it without having a real quarterback to throw the ball. Root for the Broncos.

CHICAGO BEARS at GREEN BAY PACKERS: The Eagles probably don’t have to worry about getting passed by the Bears but better to see them win anyway to be safe. Root for the Bears.

BALTIMORE RAVENS at PITTSBURGH STEELERS: The Eagles probably don’t have to worry about getting passed by the Ravens but better to see them win anyway to be safe. Root for the Ravens.
